You may want to broaden your scope a bit, but nevertheless good luck.

One Brit here... living in Medan. Most expats here seem to be Australian, American or Canadian, but there are some Brits around.

Australians and Canadians, as well as Brits, are probably OK, but I would not lower my standards any farther.

Places to hang out in Medan: Medan Club in Jl Kartini (very close to Sun Plaza). The Tavern if you are into disco type late night... (But the wife might not like you hanging out there... lot's of little lovelies trying to latch onto you!). Traders used to be popular but I don't know about now. Flaherty's Irish Pub and another one just a few doors away in Malibu area (just behind the airport.. past the golf course). I don't know whether the last two are still popular, either. I believe there is a jazz club just behind Traders, but it's not my style, so I haven't checked it out. There are a number of others which come in and out of fashion... but the above might be places to get started. As soon as you start meeting up with people they can direct you to other places.

Oh, I forgot: there is a German pub in Cemara Asli complex that serves up pretty authentic German food. However, I found the sausage (which I believer they make themselves) a bit on the salty side....

Welcome to the forum George - good to see the Brit population on here getting a bit bigger me and Skygarden were getting lonely.
