    Yeah the Sony FF compact sounds like "we do it because we can" kind of thing. I would have loved to see a FF sensor in something like the X100, something truly designed for street photography. This Sony cam is lacking a viewfinder, especially at that price.

    Anyway, Photokina starts today in Germany with a lot of announcement coming up from Olympus and Panasonic in the m4/3 department among others.

    Yup, Oly officialy release the 60mm macro at lovely price USD499, much lower than my guess.
    can't wait to grab it.

    The next that i "expect" Oly to announce the firmware upgrade to control the limiting range set - this will be very good news for UWP.
    The have released the V1.2 upgrade which allow to select UW mode wide and macro, where the lens will lock at 12mm and 50mm respectively.

    But I saw that the black version of that lens is a more expensive 'special edition'? Weird.

    Anyway, it seems the OM-D has a real competitor now (besides the NEX-6 I guess):

    And it's a FujiFilm again.

    Must say it's a beauty too. But not the black version.

    And for those who are not interested in detachable lenses but want a small size camera with a big sensor:

    What a cutie, and available in different colors.

    This is the info on the sensor:

    Of course, in that arena but with detachable lens, Olympus also announced a smaller PEN, the E-PM2. Now that could be an interesting, eh... 3rd? camera. It has many of the OM-D specs and can share lenses of course.

    Not bad with for a camera only slightly bigger than a Nikon 1 (with a sensor twice the size!).

    Among m4/3 system, OM-D still the best - but not against Nex7 and nex5N,

    Yeah hopefully the new firmware on the Fujifilm X system will make the autofocus and manual focus usable.

    How excited am I! Some hacker has been playing around with the OM-D and has found out that there is a built-in Focus Peaking functionality which for now is locked away. But it's there, and even if it's only a beta version for testing purposes, it does light up some hopes that the function will be implemented in a future firmware release. If the OM-D gets focus peaking, it will definitely be the perfect camera to me.

    What boxes does a mirrorless/rangefinder have to tick?

    Picture quality and APS-C size sensor of at least equal performance as the sensor on Canon APS-C sensors;
    Focusing speed, tracking and accuracy on par with entry-level DSLR;
    Operation speed (menus, selections, write speed, etc.) on par with entry-level DSLR;
    Good selection of fast primes (f/2 and smaller)
    Good RAW implementation and post-processing support
    Price comparable to an entry-level DSLR.
    Low light focusing down to at least -3EV

    So, which one(s) tick all these boxes?

    I would add:

    External Viewfinder
    Availability of high quality lenses
    Size and weight
    Battery life

    And perhaps: video and wifi capabilities

    New PEN top model, more retro and similar to the PEN F from 1963....

    Nice, I know some(one) who would like that one.
