Retirement Visa

How do you get a retirement visa for Bali?

I have been through the Indonesian Embassy website here in Australia, but nowhere do they mention retirement visas.

Is the visa better obtained in Bali, or is that the only place to organise one?

I am in the same position as you, and I did find something on the website for the Melbourne embassy - however I actually went to the embassy, and they told me that while it can be done from Melbourne it is much easier to enter on a Tourist Visa and use an immigration agent in Indonesia to get the Retirement Visa. It may require a 'visa-run' to Singapore to renew the Tourist Visa, but it's the best way to go.

BEWARE: this is a wrong information. You need to enter (and apply at the Melbourne embassy) with a "visa kunjungan lansia" (valid 60 days) which you can modify to a KITAS Lansia (temporary stay visa of 1 year for retired people) after in Bali without having to exit the country. A "tourist visa" (visa kunjungan wisata) can not be modified nor transformed.

Thanks for the advice Atlantis. I have had conflicting advice which is why I went to the Embassy, thinking they would know. Looks like it is back to the drawing board for me.

Macca, I think you could do pretty much as the Melbourne Embassy recommended, but more specifically, you could go to Indonesia on a tourist visa, relax while a local agent such as Okusi handles the process for you, then leave for a Singapore "run" ($200 ticket) and come back on the convertable retired person visa as atlantis suggests.

At great expense no doubt going by what they quote for the first extension to a 'Sosbud' Visa..R1,265000.oo
The official harga is only 250,000, that's a pretty decent profit margin for something that is really easy to do yourself...

The only way to get retirement visa is through a travel agent as it is required to have a travel agent sponsorship . I made a search in the internet for the travel agents (see my post at "Retirement in Indonesia"). Besides www.expat.or.id "Practical Information" , "Visas and..", you can also find the information at the site of Indonesian Embassy in Germany (www.indonesian-embassy.de) , but some information seems to be too old .
I was once interested in retirement visa , but the documents/insurances are so complicated and with the agent's charge , i found social/cultural visa more worthwhile as it is a lot easier at similar overall cost .
