Select Aperture or Shutter Speed depending on what type of picture you want to take (moving=shutter speed, blurry/sharpness=aperture). And the ISO of course, is the basic support that will help in different light situations and difficult combinations. That's the fun of photography, being able to get great images just by playing with some parameters.
I know, that was a joke. I may stick to Manual mode for the most part since it's kind of like a puzzle, trying to get the right settings to get the perfect pics, and I like puzzles. Of course certain events won't allow me to fiddle around with it too much, that's when I'll switch to those modes. I still have a LONG way to go, just learning the basics and enjoying the process.

I agree that one should stay in manual mode. Once i got used to it, i cant ever think going back to auto modes. some advice i would give you is when you meter, put the lens into manual focus and adjust the focus ring to its minimum focusing distance. This will blur out your view finder and make metering so much easier. if you dont want blown out highlights, meter the brightest part of the view finder at around 2. this method works best on indoors situations where contrast is low (if you dont do something foolish like metering light bulb and then wonder why the rest of your image is black). If outdoors you may need flash for that metering method depending on the time of day or the composition of your image.

You can set maximum and minimum ISO for the Auto ISO but not minimum shutter speed. That's something I could do on my X100.

I almost always shoot with aperture priority and the ISO at 400 where it gives really good dynamic range. If I see my shutter speed dropping too low, I'll check the ISO and bump it up accordingly. I've got to say that we have it easy with the stabilization system in the OM-D

I think we should organize a photowalk or something soon. What do you guys think?

Yep. Thinking about it, could also do it in a bar. Like Café Batavia. There all ingredients for making nice pictures are combined; museum / old desolate buildings / square / colorful bicycles / school kids / bridges. And booze.

This tread have been start a year ago... If you want revive it, you must start by asking question matter of starting an interaction.
There is good chance many of the old poster have left the forum... but it always have people around who can help.

What make a picture interesting will vary depending of your interest:
-The light and his effect on the subject you take in picture
-The emotion you can catch on a picture
-Your interest in the subject you take in picture

For a picture can be very good, it must contain all of this 3 thing and... it's very subjective.

ok, thanks for advice Philippe, I agree with you about interesting pictures
I will find the topic to discuss then =)

Your picture is interesting, nice moment, but the lighting is little bit hard,
perhaps we can make it soft by adjusting the camera setting or is this a camera phone, but great shot
    btw, thanks for sharing

I think you are mistaken. This thread is very well alive. In fact, if you look at the latest posts, we had a conversation just in August 2 weeks ago.

Pic taken last week end at Nirwana Resort in Bali to illustrate how well the OM-D holds its own in low light conditions, hand held and high ISO.
