Newborn babies need to keep warm because theyre not good at regulating their temperature for the first few days out of the womb. However for the image it was merely a prop because otherwise he would have been fully clothed. He was kept warm during the photo session by the modeling lights from my strobe lights and the hat was used for merely a few minutes for the sake of adding a few colours and a bit of texture to the image.

trying again on new born photography. its extremely difficult!! hopefully once he gets older i can get better images

The older they get, the more they move and the less they heed your commands. As babies, you are doing portraiture or human landscapes. As toddlers, you'll be doing action or sports photography.
