You know it only cost about $300USD for each cat to leave Taiwan, that includes, 3 in 1 shot, rabies shot, microchip, a crate and their airfare... And it cost my husband colleague $1,200USD to send 4 cats from Jordan to America. What they had quoted me, $5,900USD seems a lot from Jakarta Airport to my home? Does anyone actually have a breakdown of the ACTUAL cost of the import permit, quarantine...etc. I understand that the 2 weeks quarantine is only $60USD for 2 weeks right?Maybe i shouldn't leave Taiwan after all...... :-)

Well, let's see, Rp 55 million is about $850 per cat. That's a lot, I agree, but unfortunately I'm not surprised.I doubt anyone has a current breakdown of costs (jstar's post was nice in that at least it laid out the particulars) - the rules do tend to shift a lot.I still think that your best bet is to tell Groovy, Jakpetz and any other agent you are considering that you INSIST on a cost breakdown before you use their services. Most likely they will tell you that not all costs can be broken down in advance. This is true. What they mean is that they can't be sure just how much they will end up paying "without a receipt" to get the cats free. But that is only one component. They should be able to give you a breakdown of known costs, including their fee, and a range for the unknown costs. For what it's worth, I have actually gotten money back from Groovy because they estimated the cost of the bribes, ended up paying less, and therefore charged me less. However, this was many years ago, so the same procedures may no longer be in force.

Regarding the above post - this is very strange. I would never write an unreadable block of text like the above. I am a firm believer in the use of paragraph returns! However, all my spaces between paragraphs disappeared, and although it SAYS I edited the post, my attempts to go back and put in space were ignored. Odd bug!Test - this is a new paragraph.Test - this is a new paragraph.

Everywhere and nowhere at this point. I am American (more or less a New Englander), but have not lived there consistently since 1986. Actually, the place I've lived the longest, ever, in my whole life, is Jakarta.

So how long have you been in Jakarta? Maybe you should apply for a citizenship :-)
