To accompany CC's thread, another commonly-asked-but-worth-repeating question.
As to my avatar: it's a wooden puppet/wayang golek Arjuna figure that I bought at, of all places, the "Gong Factory" in Bogor. I bought him and Subadra as a pair about 15 years ago.
After a few people expressed dislike of my original avatar, I experimented with photographing my puppets as a possible replacement. Subadra didn't photograph well, at least with my very limited photography skills, and I like what Arjuna symbolizes. Moreover, his downcast expression is intended to indicate modesty and refinement - but to me as a Westerner, his look almost seems disapproving. I like the tension between the two different interpretations, and I also like having a male as my avatar even though I'm female, since I disapprove (yeah!) of stereotyping.
Tell me about your avatar, and I promise not to disapprove.

ok. a lot.
Always try to be modest. And be damn proud of it!
I changed my avatar as I was mistaken for a guy a few times
This one came about from a photo taken which I was over in April and photo editting software to give it the cartoon effect.
The challenge is to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else.
Avatar representative of our behaviours and natures. Others can judge or perceive through avatar image what kind of that person's nature, what is taste. Some confusions can be clear. .
