FYI, the dealkeren has the deal for Outback Sirloin @ Outback Steakhouse
You can check it out here http://www.dealkeren.com/

I am not really a big fans of steak but my best friend and brother are. They like Gandy's Steak
I heard about Joni Steak for a while now but I have never tried it before. Anybody?

If price isnt an issue then there are a couple of places that are worth checking out:

Il Mare - its an italian restaurant at the Mulia but they serve a steak on bone which is ~600gm (ex bone) which is done quite nicely
Another italian restaurant at the Kempinski also does a great Wagyu steak (sorry the name escapes me at the moment)
Lobo's at the Ritz Carlton does a pretty good steak as well but to be honest with you, none of the steaks Ive seen written up in here or I have mentioned are going to stack up to some of the steaks in the States or Oz. Im not sure exactly why that is, they are nice in their own right but its not quite the same, volume is part of it but there is something else I cant quite put my finger on... the other tell tale sign is that all of the steak places I have been to here (by default) provide sauces and condiments. A simple rule for me is that a good piece of meat and well cooked steak should be eaten alone, its flavours should be more than enough and a sauce only masks the true flavour of the meat so you may as well be eating cardboard with the sauce..but thats just me..

Oh there is also a steak place called Chicanes, I think, inside the mall but just around the corner from X2..that was very very good too!

    Bon Appetit..

If you live in south Jakarta, try a new steak restaurant called, The Butcher. They serve American beef. I ordered a 1kg of their special rib-eyed steak (shared with friends) and the steak charcoal grilled and was very tasty, moist and had a great texture. The 1kg rib-eyed steak was approximately Rp375.000. It was probably one of the best steak I had in Jakarta besides Angus Jakarta. Currently, The Butcher is having 15% off promo/opening special.

Do not fall for their current rp100.000, "all you can eat promo". The promo is good after 5:00pm and when you order a entree, you get to select side dishes and not another entree.

They also serve turkey, but not sure about the serving size. Anyone tried, let us know.

Is this THe Butcher in Gandaria City? I've passed by it a few times but got turned off by the fake giant meat hanging for decoration at the front :S

So true. I like to order some sauce on the side just in case the meat sucks, but it tilts me to no end when they just drench your steak with it on the get go. Another pet peeve of mine is when someone at my table orders a medium-well or well-done steak (seems to happen here a lot). It's like, wtf, such a waste of flavor and juice! I have a friend who used to work at a fancy steak place in NY, and the chefs supposedly have this policy of giving a slightly worse cut/quality of meat whenever someone orders anything cooked above medium-rare, as they won't notice the difference anyway.

Anyways, haven't been in Jakarta for long so all I can say is that Outback definitely has a decent standard, and try to avoid Sizzler if you can. I'm definitely looking forward to test out the places listed here. Keep it going guys!

Yes. The Butcher is located in Gandaria City/Mall. The fake giant meat hanging is made from foam; looks pretty authentic. I felt like like getting up and hitting the giant meat like the movie, "Rocky".

Btw, The Butcher rib-eyed steak reminds me of Texas Road House in California. The steak is tasty and moist that you will not require any sauce.

I think the address is Jl. Raya Fatmawati No. 43, it's a bit far south, near Fatmawati hospital, but if you're visiting Jakarta Selatan immigration office, it's pretty close.
I tried looking for this place, but couldn't find it. I was on Fatmawati, the hospital was on my left and I kept on driving and then back up, I assumed it was on the Hospital side of Fatmawati from Simatupang so I didn't cross that road. I drove up and down Fatmawati on the hospital side but couldn't find it. What times are they open? Thanks!

It's on the opposite side, really small and easy to miss. The only thing that makes them stand out is a yellow circle logo with a cow in the middle. I don't know the hours and only been there once so far, so can't give you proper directions, but here's their number: +622137376333

Actually, I think Rabbit said he assumed it was on the Hospital side of Fatmawati from Simatupang, which in my understanding is correct (in reference to Jl. TB Simatupang). However, once you're on Fatmawati, it is across from the hospital. If the hospital is on your left, then the MTB will be on your right side. You can also spot it by the smoke from their charcoal grill :P

After 5 years or so in Jakarta. eating lots of chicken, fish, and rice, I got a big craving for steak. My wife cooked these little steaks on the grill with a bunch of other food, but that didn't cut it. I just kept eating beef until the craving passed. I went through another spell where I couldn't stand rice after eating it for years.

If you are looking for something cheap, there are warung that sell steak. If you get lots of sate at Sate Senayan it may satisfy a beef craving. If you are looking for something moderately upscale, I'd recommend Outback Steakhouse on the Jalan Sudirman on the main drag not too far from the mall back behind Sudirman-- blanking out here--Senayan I think-- and not all that far from the Pizza Man. If its still there.

You could also get steaks at Sizzler. I find their steaks kind of bland. The salad bar is good if you aren't too icky about having certain kinds of dressing or pickles and olives on your salad. When I lived there, if you went for lunch, you could get a small steak for just a little more than the salad bar, and take the steak home (if you are eating by yourself and you are not shy about such things.)
