Lone ranger, have you tried any yet, how about a report on the recomendations?
Angus Steak House in Seneyan City is good, pricey, but you get what you pay for.

As a stranger give it welcome.

Not yet K&M, I got sidetracked last weekend and spent most of Saturday in the office but I am hoping to go to at least one of the aforementioned places this weekend. I did go to the Antipodean Sunday morning, though, always a great place to unwind with a newspaper and enjoy some good food. Will check back in once I have some "field experience" with some of the chop houses mentioned here.
I went yesterday to Holycow steak hotel, on Jl Bakti, next to senopati. They have Australian and Wagyu steak, rib eye and so on... It's really cheap, between 50 and 150 rp for 200g. I found it good. The not nice part is that you cannot book a table, you have to go there and wait to get a table (it was packed around 7-8), and there is a really bad bad smell in the street. But once you get your food, you just forget about it and enjoy.
Also, a little before 8 many things on the menu were already habis...
Apparently there's another one on Radio Dalam.
Oh, and no beer, that's a minus too
Just found a great steak completely by accident. It's a tiny hole in a wall, street place, but they sell excellent and cheap to boot steak. Called "Meet the Beef".
Rp. 99,000 for good size ribeye Wagyu steak that was melting in my mouth with mashed potatoes and some veg, I couldn't believe it. I chatted with manager there and was told that one of the owners is a Aus/NZ beef supplier for Jakarta, so quality is high while prices are low.
Their menu is super simple: select your beef, cut, doneness and sauce, that's it. Purely a steak place. They cook their steak on a charcoal grill. Prices are under Rp. 50,000 for regular beef and under Rp. 100,000 for Wagyu beef. I think the address is Jl. Raya Fatmawati No. 43, it's a bit far south, near Fatmawati hospital, but if you're visiting Jakarta Selatan immigration office, it's pretty close.
On the downside, the place is an open street shop, so you get quite a bit of noise and heat from the outside. I care for the taste (and price) of my food more than I care for the dinning atmosphere, but it's definitely not for everyone. They were also out of beer at the time

Does a mean steak chimicurri with mash with beer also available. Not sure if it would qualify as American-size. But at 75,000, you could order 2 or 3 to clog up the ol' arteries.
