IT services based in Indonesia

You know when you get an idea and then suddenly you start to notice related examples around you.. well its happening to me.

I recently thought that considering I have many good Indonesian friends and contacts who have an Information Technology study and employment background, why not make an Indonesia-based IT company?

Since having this pop in my head, I have heard of this type of thing operating - where IT services are provided globally from Indonesian IT firms.

Can anyone here give me some input with this?

Who else does it? (ie Indonesia-based companies)
What are the types of IT services provided or in demand from larger countries?
and, any warnings you might have... there are always unkowns.. and if you know them, please let me know

One problem: good international communication infrastructure. Speedy DSL, even business ones are not that good. On the best of days, it delivers what you paid for it (2mbit or 3 mbit). On a mediocre day, it's fast connecting to local servers, but not so good to overseas/western servers.

But to answer your question:
- programming services for websites (forms, apps, etc)
- tech support
- programming services for office apps (ie timesheets, databases, etc)

Hmm...no, I don't. Sorry. I believe the programming portions of the business can grow if you can find the clients. It is expensive to get someone to create an Excel sheet with a bit of VBA behind it for timesheets or simple product catalogues or invoices or simple database/forms or even an intelligent mail merge with a price book behind it for sending price quotes (all I've done in the past for others). It's also expensive to get someone to create websites, or even just web based apps or forms either for intranet uses or for internet uses (local wiki for sharing info within a company, calculating price of services, etc).

If you can find the clients and there's someone with excellent communication skills at the helm to connect with the clients (as well as technically savvy if not an expert), you might be able to get a good business going. Tech support would not be easily done in Indonesia as have been in India for 2 reasons:
- lack of good english speakers
- lack of good telecommunication infrastructure

I would start with contracting the services to your friends and acquaintances when you get a contract from a client. You look for clients however you want. Pay your friends and acquaintances on a project basis rather than hourly/daily/salary.

1) I want to start an IT business, in Medan or JKT with my Batak buddies and link with Politechnik Informasi Del. What are my first essential steps, in your opinion?

2) I have started my own coaching and training company - human resource development focused. I am seeking gigs in Indo, while living in Oz. Before I land a job there what advice would you give me re visa's and tax etc... and other helpful hints?

Oh, hm...IT company is alot here And they usually provide Solutions like Infrastructure and Networking, Software or Consultant, Data Migration, etc
