    Default Sosbud visa in Kuching?

    Hi all,

Does anyone know whether the Indonesian consulate in Kuching can issue Sosbud-visas? Or is it only possible to get one at embassies?

Any consulate can issue it. However consulate have sometimes to report first to the embassy before issuing it so it may take one or a couple of days more to issue it.

Update on Kuching consulate! Today I managed to get a sosbud visa renewal within one day at the Kuching consulate. Showed up at 5 minutes before opening at 9. The place was packed already with Indonesia migrant workers needing consular services. To my surprise I was helped immediately, as they have a seperate queuing order for visa applications. It felt a bit awkward as I was the last to arrive and the first to leave. Beating all Indonesian nationals.

Anyway, price is 170 ringgit, collection starts at 4pm the same day. Also, friendly service. No questions asked. Please note that the address in the LP is not up to date.

    The correct address is:
    Jalan Stutong No.21
    Lot 16557 Block 11,
    Kuching

From all experiences with Indonesian embassies/consulates (The Hague, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur) it was by far the best. The only minus is the $$$ taxi ride to the consulate, which is located in a suburb. I paid between 20 and 25 ringgit per ride (4 rides today).

    Hi Raoul,
my husband had applied for Sos Bud Visa in KBRI KL n we r flying to Pontianak Kalimantan Barat next week. I wonder why did u have to renew the sosbud visa in Kuching? We were told by the officer in KBRI that renewal can be done in Indonesia (in my case should be in Pontianak) ? First time on this visa and we r confused now. Hope u can reply me, many thanks.

Sosbud renewals need to be done in another country. I think you may be confusing renewal with an extension which is done in Jndonesia every 30 days for up to 5 times, then a renewal is required.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, Davita is correct. If you are interested in my experiences with Pontianak immigration office, send me a private message. It is not easy to have your visa extended without assistance from a local institution.
