    (b) am i safe to assume that the process for renewing or getting a a first kitas is the same as extending from year to year?

    (c) ... when one alih sponsors from work kitas to wife kitas does the kitas roll over to start at the next stage eg no 3 in the series of 5 or does it merely continue up to the end of the current work kitas but with a different sponsor only?

I ask this because it relates to my unanswered query above - can the alih sponsor happen when the extension/renewal happens or does the alih sponsor immediately start a new stage of kitas ..
    (a) Some days ago I already provided you with an example (which I repeat below) of simultaneous "sponsor change" & "KITAS extension" . But they are 2 different process , so don't be surprised to hear that you need to do "sponsor change ' first , then KITAS extension .

    http://www.livinginindonesiaforum.or...ture-s-journal (sponsor's change + extension together)

    (b) The original KITAS , the : 3rd , 4th , and 5th KITAS extensions have to be approved by Jakarta's Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi , besides the other 2 offices (Kantor Imigrasi + Kantor Wilayah) .
The : 1st and 2nd KITAS extensions do not need Jakarta's approval .

    (c) Sponsor's change is just that (the KITAS validity period does not change) , only the "blue book" is updated with the new sponsor . And it is officially free .

Thank you. I have read every link that has come my way and more and I have to admit to certain failings of comprehension and memory. This is not easy for me - I realise now after more than 10 years that I have been mollycoddled with regards to immigration matters - leaving it all up to my business and their agents. How little I knew.

I also am not a master of social media or fora dll. I find it hard to squeeze information about of this format and I can sense I do not fully understand the politics and etiquette of same. I do not fully understand who mrcibubur, altlantis, marcus etc are. I am grateful for their answers and comments however and the fact this is a free site. Perhaps I am wrong but I have the impression that some expert contributors are employed and others are volunteers here? Should I have read the home page?

anyway I am plugging on. Anyone who has followed my 15 or so posts probably can guess that I am feeling a bit stressed - having 9 weeks to change sponsor and get a wife kitas extension of my current 3rd work kitas, with the added complication that though married for more than 5 years our addresses are all awry, and that I will have to deal with my third Kanim. Whether this summary is accurately expressed I am not sure: but I do know that thanks to this forum I would not have been able to express it this way one week ago. I can only add that all help is much appreciated. I am doing the best that I can, am only disappointing myself a little by having now contracted a friendly agent to do the leg work.

Hi there just to simplify things and help your comprehension; marcus , atlantis et al are volunteers, just the same way you would be...they read something, see if they know anything that will help and then they post an answer.
Atalntis, Puspawarna, Pony Express, Mas Rob & John Madden are moderators, again volunteers... their role is to filter out spammers, and try to keep the site from falling apart at the seams through needless bickering, rule breaking etc.
Wm & Paman are administration, to my knowledge the owner & her son, but I could be wrong on that. They tend to be more involved with behind the scenes stuff.

In short this forum is a free site aimed at (but not exclusive to) expats in Indonesia who want to chat, source things or seek advice. A bit like an extended network of friends and colleagues who want to help each other have a trouble free existence out here, as much as possible.
Atlantis & marcus have a lot of knowledge about visas etc and can be trusted with their advice on the whole... they are human so just like the rest f us they can make errors, but rarely.

Re your comment about being disappointed at contacting an agent- if you have the funds and get stressed out easily by Indonesian admin, then hey- why not??? Don't be too hard on yourself.
Keep posting and try some of the other channels in here - who knows you might just be able to sit, relax & enjoy it
I hope this helps you a lil bit in your understanding,

    regards B_a

thanks, that adds a bit more perspective to things. I will definitely use this site a lot more when I get over this kitas hump. I have not dared to go there - seems like almost everything is and can be covered. It is quite amazing how elusive the truth of things are and it takes quite a lot of cek and ricek to get it right. In the old days, one left the pub feeling one knew everything one needed to know.

Off to the agent to get the blue book and kitas changed on monday - she admitted that the sundry other things that she should have also got right on my work kitas were far from "right". When she said she had to pull up my archive from one Kanim and taking it to another that's where I gave up the battle ... of doing it myself
