Default Looking for fish tank / aquarium shops in Jakarta?

Am keen to set up a tropical freshwater aquarium, are there any good aquarium/fish shops in Jakarta where one can check out tanks, fish & aquatic plants available?

I found the "Javamoss" aquatic gallery in Ex Plaza Indonesia, but it isn't a store & my Bahasa is practically nill at present, so wasn't able to find out where the tanks/fish came from.

    Thanks!

P.S. Not interested in a marine tank, would rather find Nemo at home on the reef :-)

There is an area of Menteng behind Sudirman that has a large number of shops selling fish, supplies and equipment. While they do have a lot of salt water stuff, you can certainly set up and stock a fresh-water tank. We have a tank full of discus and everything is from that area (except for a few supplies bought at Ace Hardware).

There are also pet stores on practically every corner of Kemang, for reasons I don't quite get. Simple supplies like fish food are usually available there, although I would go to the pasar for any significant purchases, as you are likely to get a better price.

Go to Block M. There are about 20 shops selling fishes..... Good and cheap.

Not far from Blok M in Kebayoran Baru is Jalan Barito

    Rent a Fish tank?

I know some shows offer maintenance for your salt water tank by coming to your house to clean and replenish the fish and coral every month fr a fee....

My experience with rental has not been good. While we have always owned our tank, we did originally have a service to maintain it. They came out to our house regularly to clean the tank and change water, replace sickly fish, etc.

Maybe some other services are better, but they were careless (splashing water everywhere, breaking stuff) and expensive - they charged a lot for their cleaning, and had expensive replacement fish.

Important note: we've only ever had a freshwater tank, and (like the OP) I don't approve of saltwater aquariums.

We found the service and price to be better when someone from our household (once it was a driver, and now it is our guard) was trained to do the maintenance. Now we have loyal, on-site service, and a guard who is happy for the extra money each month while still getting less than we'd have to pay the service.

We only have discus that were bred in a tank. A long time ago I suppose their ancestors were taken from the Amazon, but there is no "riverine raping" going on to keep our tank in shape.

Thanks for all you comments - good to know there is plenty available here. Looking forward to exploring further and setting a tank up. :-)

Why are you both so opposed to salt tanks? Are the fresh water fish of a lower class so you don't care about them?
