  • Sending gift to indonesia

So I'm not Indonesian but my gf is, and I've been trying to find an Indonesian website that would accept my Visa so i can send her gifts.. So far I've only found sephora, and had no luck finding any electronics website, if you happen to know any indonesian website that would accept cards from all over the world just pleeeeeeease tell me about it.. Thank you..

Ps: i want an indonesian website, to avoid any hassle with the customs if the gift is sent internationally

If it is an international credit card (not a debit card) , I guess there will be no problem .

If you continue not succeeding in the websites below , I suggest you to check with your bank . Some banks block the use of the card abroad if you didn't tell them that you are traveling abroad (my country's bank does require that) . I once had my country's credit card blocked by my bank even because I made more than 3 online purchases within few minutes , and for purchases of less than US$30 (I had to call the bank , pass through many machine requests of password/personal data , waiting , until a real person helped me - really unbelievable how some banks are) .

I guess the problem is always with the issuer bank because the sellers have no benefit in not accepting a foreign card which has as one of its normal function the capability to be used all around the world . Banks are more and more cutting costs and asking us to pass through multiple security checks which sometimes are very inconvenient to the us clients .

Note : When searching , depending on each website , sometimes you can use the product by its English name , sometimes by the Indonesian name , sometimes by both languages name . For the Indonesian name you can translate at Google Translate

Thank you for the reply Marcus! My card is a prepaid Visa card, and it's made for online purchases and it's stated that it can be used on foreign websites.. Except that until now i could only use it on International websites, like the ones to top up phone credit internationally, and sephora indonesia... Couldn't use it on tokopedia, neither shopee.. Lazada only accept certain indonesian banks and so does Erafone... Now I'm searching for international shops or brands that work in Indonesia.. Is there any? But thanks for your time anyway! I appreciate it.

        (b) ... I'm searching for international shops or brands that work in Indonesia.. Is there any? ...

        (a) I took a look of Lazada's system and I think you are mistaken . What Lazada says in its website is that , for debit card , some cards require specific setting by their issuers , some others are automatically authorized , and some others cannot be used at Lazada (by the way I have a Visa debit card from one of the banks which do not authorize shopping at Lazada but didn't know that because I never tried to use it for shopping) . They specified only some banks that have branches in Indonesia , but probably that does not mean that the access to its shopping platform is limited to cards from those banks .

As I have read in the internet , debit card seems not generally used like credit card and it is in line with what Lazada says . And again the problem is probably due to the debit card issuer (similar to problems that occur with credit cards) .

        (b) From what I know , at least Shopee , Lazada , and JD are companies that operate in many countries . By the way I just checked Shopee , and it accepts debit card too so try there if you didn't yet .

        -------------------------------------------

If you does every effort but still cannot buy the gift , what about sending her money instead . As far as I know , money as a gift is very common in Indonesia . I suggest TransferWise to send money to Indonesia , if available in your country .

I presume you use a prepaid card because you are in the process of developing a good credit rating but do not have a high enough score yet to interest a credit card issuer in your business. If I am completely off base, please forgive the error, and then apply for an American Express card.

Unfortunately American Express credit card is not very accepted like Visa and MasterCard , at least in Indonesia .

We really need that "Libra" cryptocurrency supported by Facebook (see http://www.livinginindonesiaforum.or...cryptocurrency) or something similar which could be used like US Dollars all over the world , easily and cheaply . Although Visa and MasterCard already help a lot , the fees are hidden and too high .

I stand corrected. Our use of the American Express card is pretty much limited to on-line purchases where it has worked well for us. For local use in Jakarta we have Indonesian bank issued Visa and MasterCard credit cards, but those don't always work on-line, especially when the purchase originates in the USA or UK.
