I don't think they deliberately targeted Malaysian Airlines but mistakenly shot down a plane they may have thought was hostile. Question is why were commercial planes flying over the region. For Malaysian airlines it's the second disaster/tragedy that they couldn't really have foreseen. Tough on the victims families and tough on the airline.

This is so sad, so weird and unnecessary.
Just being in a wrong airspace at the wrong time. How stupid was the Ukraine's separatist?
Do we need to check where our plane fly across everytime we travel now?
Indonesia is perplexing. Deal with it!

Certainly another sad day. Missile seems the most likely suggestion, but of course terrorism or mechanical problems are always possible.

Wow.....unreal. What an incredible run of bad luck for Malaysian Airlines.

US Airlines have been forbidden for months to fly over the troubled area. French airlines have also been forbidden to fly over the disputed area since the Russian fighter jet downed a Ukrainian military transport plane in the same airspace. Malaysia Air does bear some responsibility in that they could have seen the possibility of this happening. I understand it is not so easy to switch international routes but they had months to do that.
Take my advice, I don't need it.

Malaysia Air doesn't seem to have done much thinking since the last plane disappeared.

Interesting analysis of what kind of missiles can hit the target at 10,000 meters. Forget about shoulder mounted missiles that terrorists might use, they don't have the range for that. This was a military grade misile that takes a coordinated and highly trained crew to operate. Basically, military did it.

Bad luck that they were the test case for the NOTAM notice. Apparently, other airlines finally decided to reroute AFTER the crash. Reminds me a bit of the bad luck of JIS when the FBI revealed that a former teacher had committed suicide after his maid outed his child porno in Central America -- came right after "this never happened here". I don't think you can call either example "bad planning" or "lack of thinking".

There were four airlines that followed the same flight path after the crash. Singapore Air for one.
