    Hi Everyone,

I am an expat looking to relocate and open up a combat sports gym (boxing, kickboxing) gym in jakarta, most likely the BSD area. my wife's also an expat but her parents are indonesian citizens whom will be location back to indonesia in the next few months. from what i understand i will need either a KTAS visa? or perhaps sponsorship from a relative. we currently have an amount of money as capital and have been to the area numerous times in the last few years and have established that there is definitely a market for our planned business. i was wondering if anyone could possibly point out any potential hurdles or obsticles we may encounter? or pass on any advice??

    Thanks in advance,

    Dam

    (1) Her privileges :
    - She can get an one year KITAS and soon afer a 5 years KITAP , sponsored by the Indonesian father or mother
    - She can work informally in a small business owned by her Indonesian family without the need of a Work Permit , when she get the KITAP above .

    (2) You can only work for relatively big companies (PT type) , and only if you have the necessary credentials (one of them being that you must have an university diploma (or similar) + 5 years of work experience related to this diploma) . In consequence of this hiring , the employer must provide/sponsor you for a work KITAS + a Work Permit .

    (3) You would be eligible for "dependent" KITAS/KITAP as soon as your wife gets hers . "Dependent" KITAS/KITAP do not allow you to work .

    (4) If you want to open the gym in your names , it must be a relatively big PT PMA business type (total commitment of Rp10 Billion , see links below) . By owing your own business you become eligible for a KITAS/KITAP sponsored by this business . But to work in that without those requirements in (2) above , you can only work as a director or similar (cannot teach , for example) .

Another option : If your wife return to be an Indonesian citizen (will have to lose the present citizenship) , she could open a small business and you could informally work in it (manage , teach or do other things in it) , the same as she could do with a KITAP , mentioned in (1) above , but you could start doing with a KITAS too .
