As you may have noticed, the forum software has undergone a bit of a facelift. We've migrated from vBulletin4 to vBulletin5.2.2. As with all software major updates, there will undoubtedly be a few hiccups. As with all software upgrades, vBulletin has made changes in how their software works, so there may be a bit of a learning curve as you re-orient yourself to their changed environment.

We have worked through the initial hiccups that were reported. If you experience additional issues, please pm them to wm and we'll work through them. Thanks for your patience!

  • Hi folks,
Greetings from Tangerang! I managed to get my ITAS converted to ITAP by myself with the very helpful advice provided by Atlantis. It took me 10 weeks from submission to get the ITAP. The process could have been faster but I was busy with family and did not have time to monitor it always.
Just want to point out a few things so others can hopefully jump through less hoops to get theirs converted.

    1) After “field visit” is done, you should visit Kanim about a week later to follow up the status of your application and see if you are missing any documents and/or replies from other govt department.

    2) After getting your recommendation letter from Kanwil, it is better to submit to Dit Jen Im (5th Floor, Rom 503) personally and make sure the electronic authorization from Kanim and Kanwil have been “clicked”. If not, Dit Jen will not process your application.

    3) Dit Jen will tell you to come back in around 15 days time to collect your SK yourself. They are not going to send it. I tried to monitor the process by telephone but nobody ever answered.

    4) Dit Jen will issue you 3 copies of the SK, one is for Kanim, one for yourself and one for Kanwil. There is no need to visit Kanwil. You can send it by courier. You can go straight to Kanim to pay, take photos, get fingerprinted, etc.

    • What I did was wrote another letter to Direktur Izin Tinggal dan Status Keimigrasian and explain the situation,

They called me few days letter and told me that my SK has done. Good luck.

        • Its a while since I have been on the Forum. I have now been married to my current wife for two years and my current one year Itas (kitas) expires middle of May, so I am preparing things for my application from Itas to Itap for the five years, hopefully going down to KanIm Bogor on Thursday or Friday.

So the Map Folder and Forms are now free?

I assume that the process for ITAP is similar to that for getting ITAS first time around with the run around between KANIM KANWIL and the big immigration office on Rasuna Said. As a Brit and noting Anglian comments, in view of arguments I have had with British Embassy before about this document of acknowledgement for the marriage and paying a fee, I would welcome seeing a specimen format of the letter given by the Embassy letter for 700,000rp.

Is there anything different which I need be concerned about? My wife finally got her new E-KTP to the old address and not changed to the new address. Any concerns there?

Also confirm the fee. Is it the 3 juta when the letters are issued by Rasuna Said Jakarta? plus fingerprints and photos as usual I guess.

            (a) I would be really concerned about it . Any document ( her KTP , her KK , your documents) must be updated .

            (b) In all my immigration processes (Sosbud extension , KITAS , SERP , KITAP) , I only paid at the end , at Kantor Imigrasi . They give you a identification paper to present at the cashier counter and you get a printed receipt after paying . For the KITAP it was Rp3'055'000 , after Kantor Imigrasi receiving the approval letter from Jakarta's Office and just before the photo/fingerprints be taken .

Thanks again for your response Marcus. With the E KTP it is meant to make the change of address simpler but in reality it becomes more complicated. That is why my wife keeps the old address which is still a valid address for her and why the E KTP was changed under the old address rather than the new one. I am concerned but I Lurah and Kecamatan are not being helpful on this issue to date. They simply say that the address on the E KTP cannot be changed without explaining why which is wholly inconsistent with the notion that the new system should lend itself to making it easier for indonesians to upgrade their address.

              • Hi all,

I'm indonesian and my husband is Italian (foreigner). For now we're living in bali. I had process the first 2 KITAS of my husband through an agent known well by the consulate. But I started to "sworn some bad words" to the immigration as per info from my agent about many things but good news. I started to dig up some infos, and one of my friend, a balinese who have a brother working in immigration gave me the contact of the kepala pengawasan orang asing in immigration office. I took some moment talking to him. He explained to me that the new UU still not implemented yet & will take years until it will, that I have to make the 3rd KITAS before converted it into KITAP. From everything that he explained to me one thing shocked me that the cost for the conversion to KITAP is 37juta.
I want to know if anyone ever did this in Immigration Bali (either in Tuban or Renon), not with agent and get through it.
Otherwise, I was thinking to change into Surabaya immigration office, since I learn from many postings here that you guys have not so many difficulties doing this conversion in the immigrations in Java island.
Anyone can give me any advice? will be really appreciated. As I refuse to pay any more extra rupiah for these people and planning to do it by myself.

                • I would check the threads on how to do it yourself on this forum. The cost is 3.055jt not 37jt. Maybe they got the decimal point in the wrong place!

                    (1) This may happen in some cities where Kantor Imigrasi still refuse to use the new UU6 - 2011 . It is true that the Minister's Decree related to this Law is not issued yet , but Atlantis (our law specialist) said that the "2 years marriage" rule could be used without further regulation .
Anyway , you may just try to submit the request at the "ITAS , ITAP ,.." counter and if the officer and his/her boss refuse to accept it , then you could either talk/make a written complaint to the chief of the "Kantor Wilayah" , or just do the 3rd KITAS first (I did the 3rd before the KITAP , as this extension is very very easy) .

                    (2) This is certainly not the official price (which is Rp3'055'000) . He probably was referring to what some agents charge (in this Forum there were some posters mentioning agent's price in that level) .

                    (3) Unfortunately you cannot freely choose where to request the KITAP . Any immigration service need to be requested at the city where the sponsor lives (related to address stated in KTP and KK) .

                    (4) There were many Forum members who already did KITAS and KITAP without agents , I am being one of them . You can use the many cases posted as example ( see below my own experience about ) :

http://www.livinginindonesiaforum.or...2841#post72841 , (post no.128 , example of converting Sosbud into KITAS)

Poster's Note : The example above is for the first KITAS . The 3rd KITAS (meaning the second KITAS extension) , is easier because the Jakarta's Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi is not to be involved in the approval process . So the example is to be used just when referring to Kantor Imigrasi and Kantor Wilayah , and some minor differences like forms package (Perpanjangan ITAS instead of Konversi Izin Kunjungan ke ITAS) and relating to the required documents (some new documents have been requested lately).

http://www.livinginindonesiaforum.or...-an-Indonesian (example of ITAS to ITAP)

                    • Hi Marcus,

Thanks for your explanation. I guess I was in a hurry writing that post last nite, out of desperation of hearing 37juta
But then, I took some time in reading through out all the postings here and started to get the idea of all this mess.
The officer who talked to me as I mention was also saying that the regulation now is still "grey" which everybody knew, like not. But he insisted that for now the regulation applied is the older one.
Yes, I'm aware that the making of KITAS/KITAP should be based on the KTP or KK of the sponsor. Which actually I haven't told before that even though currently I'm living in bali, but my KTP is Surabaya. So basically for the 2 times of KITAS of my husband, I was using temporary KTP or so called KIPEM, that can be issued from the local government here (the banjar). That's one of the reason I was thinking to make the KITAP conversion or even the KITAS 3 in Surabaya. Would there be any difficulties changing the immigration office in this case?
Another thing I'd like to have to make sure, I was married in june 2011, which legally I will be married for 2 years to be eligible to have KITAP in june 2013, right? Problem is, that as soon as we married me made his KITAS, so 2nd KITAS is expired in August 2013. What I want to ask:
                      1. Would it be ok even though for instance I submit the conversion in May that practically around 3 months from the expiration date of the KITAS, but not yet legally 2 years of my marriage? Or maybe just do it in June but the time will be so tight?
                      2. Or do you think it is much better for me to just make the 3rd KITAS and then continue with the conversion?
To be honest, I'm traying to avoid the 2nd option, because it means another expenses, plus another hassle in the immigration office the next year for the KITAP.
Thanks anyway for all the help.
                      Cheers

                      • I shall now be going on Wednesday to submit my KITAP application to Bogor.

                        1. My wife is going to change her E ktp AND Family Card to our domicile address but it is provimg a real hassle this time around with the two RTs, the two Lurahs and the Kecamatan. Cant risk a simple Domicile letter from the new RT alone alongside the other (still valid) address

                        2. With the passage of time, I cannot remember if I should hold the original of the Certificate of No Impediment issued by the British Embassy in 2011 or merely copies. I have a feeling the original was given to the KUA at the time of marriage. Correct or not? Of course I hold photocopies

                        3. The Conversion Certificate issued by KUA for Muslim status I also only hold copies yet I believe that I held the original at some point. Do not think I need produce this to anyone this time around but you never know

                        4. I am in the process of obtaining a Declaration from the British Embassy which confirms seeing my marriage book with a copy attached but I will not produce this until asked for

                        5. My KITAS on the orange card and in the passport and other documents shows as not expiring until 25 May 2013 but then I suddenly checked my blue book and it says expiring on 25 03 2013. Is it possible that is just an error nobody spotted?

                        Comments please

Just my own opinion, my friend, but I don't willingly give up originals of documents my government gave me, that cost me time and money, unless they guarantee I'll get them back. I don't know if you're going to have hassles because you no longer have originals of those documents, but I would see if you can't get them back and give them copies in exchange. They don't need originals...

For #5, that certainly sounds like an error you should have Immigration correct.

I'm sure Marcus or Atlantis have much more erudite comments to make.

                                Namaste, peace & love,
