    At first use, writing out the words in full followed by the acronym in parenthesis, I seem to recall as proper (and courteous) usage. But that regime defeats the purpose, assuming the purpose of acronyms is brevity, especially if you make use of the acronym only once or twice. That being said, making it clear upfront what LIIEF stands for would have eliminated at least 10 off-topic posts -- thus the brevity interest would have been served by dispensing with the obscure acronym altogether.

    In that it is clear that I have too much time on my hands, let me add another comment.

    SMS is not in common use in the USA I have been instructed by those in the know (my daughters). Most don't know what SMS means; better to use "text" in these parts.
