  • Changing religion to marry Indonesia woman

    Good Morning.
I am Christian Catholic and I want to marry my girlfriend who is Christian Batak Protestant.
I know that marriage partners must have the same religion, otherwise one partner must make a written declaration of change of religion.
I would like to have more clarification about this point.
    It is enough my self-declaration?
Does exist a form to be filled?
Or I need to get a paper from a Protestant Pastor?
And in this case has anyone experience how to do? is it easy? is it quick to obtain? Any suggestions?
I stress that I need this before and of June at the latest, because I will leave from Indonesia beginning of July, and I have to marry first week of July.

    Hope someone can help me.

I don't know , but I suggest you/your girlfriend to ask the Pastor who will marry you .

Self declaration could be enough, but the church where you will have your wedding ceremony probably will ask your baptismal certificate.
I don't think you need to fill any form to declare your conversion. However, there are some forms for registering the marriage where you should mention your religion.
Every church has slighty different rules. Baptism shouldn't be difficult, I think the pastor is happy to receive you as part of his/her congregation. It's possible that a class is required to be taken before baptism and before wedding (wedding prep class). The class can be a day per week for a few weeks, depends on the church policy.
Explain your situation to the pastor. I'm positive that he/she'll help you do it faster.
Schedule is very tight. Don't forget to make a pre-nup and quickly register the pre-nup and the plan of wedding to Catatan Sipil. Read what Marcus has posted. Best of luck.

What if you tell them that you have no religion? How can they figure out what to fill in the "Religion" column? Inquiring minds want to know.
