TAKING JAZZ TO THE STREETS
*******************************
Ambon is set to become a city of music, as the Ambon Jazz plus festival takes to the streets with a carnival atmosphere. A series of mini concerts featuring high profile music artists will interact with the audience and give a personal, close up view of music in motion, Maluku style.
International artists look forward to being involved with this unique concept.
Although large numbers of people are expected, the street carnival atmosphere will provide a more intimate contact with the audience that is not possible in a large auditorium location.
Mr Andy Manuhutu, C.E.O of Ambon Jazz, and Dr. Ivan Nurdin, representing The Maluku Spice 2010 festival, visited Ambon last week to discuss the logistics with the secretary of the city Dr. Hulliselan.
It was agreed that to make this event extraordinary required a unique approach. The street of Pattimura will come alive to the sounds of not only Jazz, R&B and gospel but also to International Hip hop stars. There seems no better place to take hip-hop than back to the streets, in style.
Keeping the event in the city centre allows easy access for visitors and locals alike and will allow the CBD cafes and restaurants to benefit from the festival trade. It is expected that Ambon city businesses will use Ambon Jazz Plus to their advantage by decorating and styling their premises to the theme. The atmosphere that this will generate will add to the overall excitement of the event.
The head of the festivals technical team, Mr Agung said that although the location presented some logistical challenges he believed the problems would all be overcome by his team of sound engineers.
“The largest and centre stage will still be located as first thought in Pattimura Square commented, Andy Manuhutu, but by spilling out onto the streets we will achieve a concert that will create a first for Ambon.”
“We look forward to returning to Ambon next week to follow up discussions with the city planning and development departments”, said Andy in closing.
