  • Wanna marry an Indonesian woman

I am from Bangladesh and i want to get married with an Indonesian woman. I'll be going to Indonesia this September. I want to know what should be done.
I have asked several people but got different types of answers.
    Please kindly help me.

A lot depends on what your plans are. Were you hoping to emigrate to Indonesia with a spousal visa and work here? Or do you want to return to Bangladesh with your bride? Also, are the two of you the same religion?

          (a) Getting an Indonesian Visa :
Your best option is a Single Entry (Visit) Visa (also called Social Cultural/Sosbud Visa ) , sponsored by your future wife . You will have to ask her to write/send you a sponsor letter (see a sample in the link below) + a copy of her KTP (identity card) . Ask her to refer you as the future husband in the letter .

          http://www.livinginindonesiaforum.or...=5217#post5217 (post no.4 , sample of sponsor's letter for a Sosbud)

See the details at the (Dhaka's) Indonesian Embassy's website . Because there are mistakes in their pages , check all these 3 webpages :
          http://www.kemlu.go.id/dhaka/en/laya...-Konsuler.aspx

          http://www.kemlu.go.id/dhaka/id/laya...erjalanan.aspx
          Note 1 : DO NOT sent anything to P.O. Box 112 , 3000 Bern 15 as mentioned in the 2nd webpage .
Note 2 : The Embassy usually requires a return/onward flight ticket . You can explai them that you want to get a KITAS and continue living in Indonesia , or buy the cheapest ticket from Indonesia to Singapore or Malaysia , or .. (see other options in the ticket links) .

          (b) Documents for your marriage : ask your future wife to get the list of the required documents from the KUA (if you are Muslims) , or church/Catatan Sipil (for other religions) , where you will marry . To have an idea of the documents . see the first link below . The main document from you is the Embassy's letter of non-impediment to marry . If you don't want to go to your Embassy in Jakarta? , you can bring an equivalent document from your country .

marcus Thanks for the great reply dear brother.

Have a few doubts to clear

Is it necessary for her to sponsor? What if i get the tourist visa from here and go and marry her?

Another question is, you said "The main document from you is the Embassy's letter of non-impediment to marry . If you don't want to go to your Embassy in Jakarta? , you can bring an equivalent document from your country ."

So does this mean i can take a similar documents from my country to indonesia without facing Embassy? and what can be the similar documents.

            Thanks for ur time.

(2b) and what can be the similar documents...

              (1) A Tourist Visa (does not require a sponsor) is easier to get but cannot be converted into an one year Limited Stay Permit/KITAS . So it will cost you more later , as you will need to go to Singapore or Malaysia after the 59th day to get the Sosbud Visa (or a VITAS , which I don't recommend either) . Besides that , the Sosbud Visa can be extended up to 180 days , which gives you more time to marry , find a place to live , and prepare the required documents for the KITAS without going out of Indonesia .

Note : The Sosbud can only be converted into a KITAS if the sponsor is your future wife .

(2a) Yes , but better check with your marriage office first , as by not being a common practice , some officers will be afraid to accept .

(2b) See what is used in your own country , preferably a document from your government . In my country there is such a government document (proving one is not married , so free to marry) , but it was not a very convincing document , so I did a notarized document stating I was single and could be prosecuted if not true , with 2 wiitnesses , which I later made a sworn translation to English in my country and a sworn translation to Indonesian in Indonesia (and my marriage office in Indonesia agreed with that) . Be aware that the officers can also ask you to legalize (or register) the document in the Indonesian Embassy in your country (but it didn't happen in my case) .
