View Full Version : Porn keywords
Well, I tested out old Titface SiMiring's blocking of porn search terms and had no trouble finding websites catering for a wide range of particularly bizarre tastes.
Ironically, I haven't ever been in the habit of looking for www porn but my curiosity was stimulated by Titface's pontifications so perhaps I should report him for leading me astray?
I love how he basicly said at the meeting "Well guys we tried and thats what counts. If we stopped one we have won. I have no clue how many key words we can block until I speak to those guys that you know do that thing with the computers but we will update the list of key words when ever some one shows up, I mean constantly." Made me smile and if you want to check its stated in the jakarta post.
They listed a whole 5 websites that they blocked including Playboy.com. I figure the way that they put together the list of sites they ended up blocking went something like this:
Titface to his subordinates - "Hey what porn sites do you guys like looking at?"
Subordinates - "Well there is Playboy.com and porn.com and (names a few more sites)."
Titface - "Good block those. This will show that we know what we are doing"
Subordinates staring at him blankly

During my (miserable) year in China I learned from the old hands how to burrow through the Great Firewall of China and access news sites that were zealously blocked. Do a google search for 'proxies' and you should find a load of proxy server websites that set up an encrypted https:// web form that allows you to enter the banned URL of your choice and view the page in secret. The cost is that you are pestered by adverts as you do so, as that is how the proxies earn their keep.
It shouldn't be long before every high school boy in Indonesia knows how to use proxies and there will be proxy sites with advertising targetted at the Indonesian market. Remember that China has a vast budget and thousands of cyber police but even they can't keep track of proxies that change their name and URL on a regular basis (if you register with a proxy they email you with details of these changes).
That being said, I tried yesterday with rather kinky English search terms like 's&m fetish' and these weren't affected. Those who can write search terms in French, German or Spanish will find a vast pornucopia written in those languages too. Titface and the finest brains of the likes of Telkom Speedy (hee hee!) haven't a hope in Hell of blocking www porn, or any other kind of content for that matter.
In the US they have a name for this: Political Posturing. In essence Tifatul simply wants to show his hard line supporters that he earns his keep. The result is less important than the action (posture). It's all about appearances. In other word, business as usual.

Oh, are there porn sites for the girls, too?
Oh, are there porn sites for the girls, too?
You must have had a sheltered life. Most of the girls I knew back in the UK who needed porn before experiencing me said it was no good to them after. Apparently even massivethingy.com has nothing to match my maleness.
However, to block selected sites/keywords on the net must be amazingly hard work. The English language is so versatile, I would imagine the possibilities would block half of the internet if you added them as key words.
Added. That and the censors may not be familiar with more 'exotic' tastes such as mine.
Thinking about it, the ones that are will keep their traps shut anyway.

Exactly true.

A good site blocker, or in this case porn blocker, should require us to specify how often a certain word must appear in a site before its considered blocked (as porn in this case). Each word can be given variable weight, so that if it hits a certain point, let's say 100.. then it's blocked.
For example my block point is 200, and 1 word of sex will get 80, 1 word of adult is 50, dick is 120,etc..etc.
A subscription option to the well-known orange web filter is also a good idea, their list is huge and so far has been accurate.
There was a necessity for this in my previous office and I would have tried making one for at least 6 month if there weren't any software in the market that could do it, luckily there is.
I've been blocking sites in my office, no complain so far, except of course from the porn lovers.
Oh, and TOR won't work.. these type of software blocks content not URL. TOR'll only help masquerade ur URL, but won't get you any porn
