View Full Version : USB Microphone of a Decent Quality?
Hi there,
I'm a vocalist and I need a decent microphone that I can use to record my voice. All I could find so far are fake mics, you know, the kind that has an A or B brand but it's a "Super Quality" whatever that means. I'm not rich and I'm not making money out of my hobby yet, so I'm on a budget.
Any help appreciated.
I haven't seen a USB mic except the ones for the Xbox 360 game Rock Band, you may be able to use that. You can get those at pretty much any decent video game store. If you care to browse around, Mangga 2 would probably have what you're looking for.
I use a USB sound card with standard audio in. That is hooked up to a small mixer and a DJ quality mic.
Of course once ant mixer and mic are usable once you have the sound card sorted.
I have seen real SM58s in Magelang as well as many a cheap and nasty Chinese fake so they must be available in the rest of the country.
If it's for hobby use only a simple mixer is going to cost you well less than 2 million and probably half that then you just need to decide on the mic.
Shops will let you do a sound check before you buy.
Mine is just for recording speach so the quality is less important but the system could be used for vocals at a push. The whole thing cost me less than Rp300,000.

I saw 2 shops in Mangga Dua mall selling music junk ( Guitar, piano, amplifier, drum. mixer etc)...I have no idea on the prices.
I am very often shopping from this website, they do sell USB mic, take a look : http://www.bhinneka.com/category/microphone_and_wireless_portable/brands/shure.aspx
Nice looking mic

but the OP was asking for cheap so it may not suit.

Will allow any mic with an XLR plug to bang direct into the PC.

Yeah....but there is cheap one $26 but of course its just wireless mic.. I dont know what is category cheap for this kind of mic.
this one also have selection :

A $26 radio mic is guaranteed to be rubbish. Don't waste your cash.
If you can get any of the leads in my links you can plug any mic in and take it from there.
The audacity program is available legally and free on the net but add the lame MP3 plug in so you can export in that format.
That's the program I use for the voice recordings. It;s simple but works well and you can add/remove tracks to your heart's content.
Thank you so much Mas Fred, Stt_cibubur and Tokek for the help and links. I really appreciate it.
But I'm not sure if they would send it to Jakarta?
Mas Fred, do you think they would have mxl.usb006 here?

Yes
Google "USB XLR Jakarta" and you will find many
The forum bot is stopping me posting the links
Google "USB XLR Jakarta" to get them.
You could always use a USB soundcard with line in and go back to the simple mixer with standard mic if you have problems.
It works really well for me.
M T.Worked with female vocalist many times Break a leg with your pipes, Years ago we used Byres mic's when you could still afford to buy them, now to costly, then Electra voice sound excellent but medium price, But the sm57 and the sm58 are the work horse and a good buy for the money and sound very good, would be willing to send if you can't fine them there ,
wouldn't mess with knock offs voice coils will not be the same, poor sound. just a thought on mic's, Fred will shear you right oops mean steer

The website www.bhinneka.com (http://www.bhinneka.com) is base in Jakarta, they have few shops ( Points Square, Mall ambasador, PP, Mangga dua mall, Ratu Plaza) and 1 of them in Cibubur Junction near my home, and they will deliver it to your door.
You are not looking for a computer shop here but a music shop.
You may drop lucky in the former but have much more chance in the latter.
Thank you guys. I appreciate the help. I found a decent one in Manga 2 only cost me 800 thou.
