View Full Version : european sized women's fashion wanted
Ladies, hard to believe no one has been asking this before, so I guess I missed the thread....
Anyway: Where do you shop for decent fashionable ( no joke !) clothing when you are not a size 0 or less? Urgently need some advise, better addresses, as to where I can buy decent dresses, shirts, trousers in European sizes, ideally European, Australian or US brands. And I don't mean this superexpensive, exclusive, budget swollowing luxury brands (Ferragamo, von Fuerstenberg, Dior and their likes) in the big, superexpensive, exclusive.... malls...
Grateful for any hint !!

It's a problem to find decent fashionable clothing for European size, if you can find some...usually it comes with expensive pricing. I usually get mine in Mark&Spencers outlet, or some factories outlet (you can find a lot in Jakarta and Bandung) that sells rejects for export clothing (meant for western market) for cheaper alternative.
Else...tailor made clothing is a good option once you met somebody perfect for that job, in indonesia it's not that expensive to make it.
My wife has similar challenges. Marks & Spencers as mentioned above. Also look in Debenhams in Senayan City mall. Seibu department store in Grand Indonesia mall. There is also a department store in Pacific Place mall but I don't remember the name. There are Zara outlets (Spanish i think) in most of the big malls.It can be frustrating as most of the stuff they have is in smaller sizes but you can find more normal European sizes as well. Good luck

My wife has a similar problem, she is too small for most of the fashion wear. (The stuff that fits often has Disney characters on it.) Her solution, and the one I recommend, is locate a good tailor. Her tailor can make almost anything -- just bring in a picture and the material; she already has the measurements on file.
I was in Mangga Dua Square yesterday. There is a shop in there that sells all sorts of what I think is factory 2nd's. I bought things like Mambo shirt (Aussies will know what I am talking about) for 105,000Rp (would sell for at least $60AUD in Oz), Snow jackets for adults and kids for 140,000 to 400,000 each. These jackets would sell for between $200 and $300 in Oz, numerous GAP shirts for the kids, wife bought pants and shirts etc. We bought tons of stuff and total cost was around 1.6Juta. I estimate if we bought them in shops in Oz, we would have paid close to $1000.
It is a factory outlet and some of the stuff has minor faults or has a small mark on it. Before anyone snubs their nose at it, I have to say, the faults are so minor that you would not notice unless you inspected very close. One example is a pair of kids pants we looked at had an adjustable elastic string tie in the bottom of the leg, but it had been sewn inside the pants. All you would need to do is cut a small hole and pull the thing out.
Their sizes range from tiny Indo sizes to a shirt I saw that must have been 10xl...it was bloody HUGE! They have a big range of big sizes.
Anyway, their details are;
Mangga Dua Square Factory Outlet
Level B1
Jl Gunung Sahari
Oh, by the way, if you buy over 500,000 worth of gear, you can get a discount card for a further 10% off! Love it!

Too late, Jester; fortune spent, closet full. Its the second fortune I am concerned about, as well as building closets fast enough to keep up.
Indo Mom, with reference to shopping, its good that your schedule does not permit frequent visits to Jakarta. Thanks for the heads up; I will start an IndoMom Shopping Spree fund in anticipation of your next visit.

You are most welcome, Waarm :)...like they said ' a happy wife bring in a happy life '...:cheer2:
Thanks a lot folks ! Jester, I appreciate your precise info, addresses and all. Great !
Where ist the Marks and Spencer outlet, please ? And where to in Bandung would I go? Anyone got a name and / or an address of the "famous Bandung outlets" ?
If everything else failes: Can anyone recommend a good (GOOD) tailor? (I am fed up with mediocre tailors....and with looking like I had borrowed what I am wearing).
Pak RT: I might come back to your suggestion.

Hi, for ur answer why dont u try open http://urtyleasur.multiply.com
There is clothes maybe can fit on u, mostly they have clothes with chest size more than 100 cm. Its trusted and easy for shopping. Material is cotton so it comfortable to wear in Indonesia.Thanks..
My sister, who wears size L US brand or 3xl local brand, shops at "My Size" whenever she's in town.
They have sizes up to 5XL, I don't know what that is in US.
You can find them at Pejaten Village (1st floor I think) and Plaza Semanggi (Basement).
@Waarmstrong:
wow, your wife is very tiny.
I used to have that problem, not so much anymore though :D
Anyway, I used to buy tops and jeans at GAP kids or Old Navy kids section. I found that size 12-14 actually fit me perfectly, and most of their styles are more grown up like. Compared to the local brand, I mean.
Any recommendations for affordable shops in Bali? I'm a US Size 14 and my husband wears XXL. Not into designer prices, we're more like Old Navy people.
Question about the Indonesian body sizes: Why are they so much smaller than westerners? Is it because they don't pig out like we do? Or because they don't drive everywhere? I can't help but wonder if I'll lose weight if I live there permanently.

Sorry, I can't help you with your first question. Although if we have Old Navy here, it'll be just as expensive as Banana Republic in the US. Look at what happen with Forever 21. Geez....
For 2nd Q, not trying to offend anybody, but unless you don't drive, eat at "warung", and do your own errands, you're not going to loose any weight. :P
If you notice, all Indonesian who aren't doing the above wearing size L :D
