View Full Version : Place to sit outside?? Restaurants/cafes/parks?

Hi all,

I just arrived in Jakarta a few days ago and so far have yet to find somewhere where I can sit outside and enjoy the weather! (maybe I'll feel differently in a few months, but for now I'm loving it :).

I have only come across either street stalls where you can sit outside and eat, or very fancy, indoor restaurants and malls that are incredibly air conditioned. Are there any restuarants or cafes that have outdoor seating, or even an area of the city that has more parks? I'm very new here, so I am hoping I just haven't explored far enough yet...

Thanks!

Cilandak Town Square (CITOS) Mall in South Jakarta. It has limited outdoor seating at three resto/cafes: Starbucks, a sushi restaurant and an American-style diner. The remainder of the mall has other "outside" seating but inside the covered, main wing. Pics at <http://www.townsquare.co.id/cilandak/index.php?act=home>.

CITOS Mall is on Jl. Simatupang near Rumah Sakit Fatmawati. Also nearby are the Harley Davidson dealer and the Ferrari/Maserati showroom/workshop if your vehicles need servicing while you eat.

Bandar Jakarta, the fresh sea food place in Ancol has essentially all outdoor seating -- most bay-side. The down sides are that you must pay to get into Ancol Park to get to the restaurant and the bay is within the Jakarta scum circle. Go in the evening -- the water doesn't look quite as dingy at night.

Problem is thus, at the moment it is incredibly cool, cold even in Jakarta. This will change, most of the year, it is faaaaaaaaaar too hot to sit outside.

Outback resteruant in Ratu Plaza has an outdoor area. Oh la la cafe in Bintaro has an outdoor area. Social house in Plaza Indonesia open their windows, so it is almost outdoors. Immigrant nightclub/lounge has an outdoor balcony Segaara in Ancol is outdoors.

I was thinking of Loewy's as Ive been there a couple of times for lunch and found their 'open to the sidewalk' seating very nice. Is my recollection that there is a line of fountains in front correct?

Thinking about that I wonder if anyone has tried to use those 'patio misters' on a verandah or balcony:

I've seen them used all over Arizona and California, where the air is dry. I understand the theory that they are not so efficient in humid climates, such as RI, but wondered if anyone had tried and could comment.

A number of places in Thailand have them, i've not seen them here, they work an absolute treat!

Seen them in Singapore, though I am not sure that their impact is so great in places where the ambient humidity is already in the 80-100% range. Sort of those restroom air driers where the drying mechanism is stiffled by the fact that the ambient can no longer support more humidity evaporating into it.

Grand Hyatt at Bunderan Roundabout has a very extensive outdoor terrace resto on 4th or 5th floor

Similarly I recall 'Sultan' (formerly Hilton) has some restaurant in the middle which is outdoors.

I think also that Sate Tomang has a open area (although covered)

There is also a big outdoor eating area in Kelapa Gading which is very well known. (tented)

Starbucks next to AceHardware/RanchMarket in Buncit has outdoor terrace.

Eastern Promise in Kemang has 'garden' at rear

I think you mean the Seafood terrace on the 5th floor.
Be careful...the Fountain Lounge which overlooks the lobby and the Bunderan circle is closed for renovation.
My wife and I went there Friday and had a pleasant evening in the Burgundy Bar...great music.... sorta Samba jazz.

www.kuninganvillage.com (http://www.kuninganvilliage.com)

It just opened December 1st and is located behind the Setiabudi building. Free Wi Fi, peaceful, pretty setting with plenty of mature trees around and offers indoor ac or outdoor seating with about five different kinds of foods being prepared in the style of mall foodcourts but higher class looking. I haven't tried the food. I just walked in because noticed the place a few days ago and had the time to do so. Pretty setting. I think it's good for someone alone, with friends or a pacar/spouse.

Places with nice outdoor seating:

Starbucks (ground floor attached to Sogo), Plaza Senayan.
Hacienda (where RedSquare used to be), Plaza Arcadia Senayan.
KFC, Kemang.
Kemang Food Festival, Kemang.
Payon, Kemang.
etc

Whenever place you choose, no matter how famous/expensive it is, don't put your valuable belonging (e.g. laptop+bag) on the ground or anywhere beyond your sight range. Just in case.
