Hi, a group of us visited Sepa Island around a year ago. Erm..... it was ok but not really what I was looking for. The diving was quite good but the island was a bit cluttered, man mauled and i was quite disappointed to see the obvious lack of concern towards conservation. I might have had unreasonable expectations as I have been to so many beautiful unspoilt places in Arfica and the Middle East so I am tryingt o stay partial here. I suspect we just picked the wrong place as some of the landscape images Hombre has posted here show that ther are some stunningly beautiful spots in and around Indonesia which belie what i saw while I was there. Anyway that was just my personal impression of one island.................... hope you get some good advice and direction to your question.
@ Kingwilly and Rushingdoll: thank you for the info. I think I may exclude Pulau Sepa from the choice. The time is limited so we might go to only one island. :)

Om - I hope your Sunday is going top class. "Man Mauled" relates to Hu - man - s and not wo-man-s or man-s thrashing of natures gifts??? Thank you ever so kindly for pullling me up on my spelling error of Arfika....I mean Aficar ..............I mean.................oh I give up.

Yes ! I've been to Thousand Island for many times !!!!!!! Still my favorites are : Semak Daun Island and Tiger Island.
Its always better to do it in a backpacking way. Cheap and funnn !
You can go to Muara Angke early morning and take a boat at 7am, it takes around 3 hours to get to Pramuka Island before you take another boat to Semak Daun Island ( perhaps only 15 minutes )...
The beach is really clean, you can go snorkeling there..what makes it even better because semak daun is an inhabited island, so you must bring your own food, blanket, and tent if you want to spend a night there. Otherwise you can
book a hotel in Pramuka Island.

So far the hottest destination in the Thousand Islands now is the twin Tidung Island. If you can find the right tour guide -I recommend you to contact Penulis Pengelana (
[email protected]) then you can explore all the beautiful side of these islands., And if you go here for the weekend, you don't need to go to another island because two days is simply not enough! For the weekend trip expect to spend around US$ 40-45. All you need is just bring your backpack and camera! Check these pics:

I took my Family for a day trip, Im afraid I have forgotten the name of the island as it was some time ago, it was a pleasant day out,, but I bought my ticket for the boat at the departure point at Ancol, the travel agent there double swiped my visa card and some gent in South Korea had a great time in some bar there to the tune of 3000 pounds, needles to say I pay for nothing by Visa now. So have a care
