Help...last minute question as I leave tomorrow morning.

Does KL have a Duty Free liquor store on International arrival or should I buy the booze at Jakarta before departure?

Thanks for any prompt responses...last minute thinking while packing...not like others here who just throw things into a bag but have probably sussed out where to get their booze long ago.

What company are you flying with and what airport? Air Asia lands in KL LCCT which is the Low Cost Carrier Terminal. The duty free shop there sucks. They sell liquors but there is a very poor choice IMHO. Tell me what you are looking for and I'll tell you if I have seen it there. If you fly a regular airline company you should be taking off/landing in the main terminal (KLIA - Kuala Lumpur International Airport) and shouldn't have problem to find any booze you want.

Thanks Olivier...we are on Malaysian, arriving 14:00 so I guess KLIA.
Just wondering if possible to buy Absolute Vodka inbound, at the arrival before customs/Immigration, or should I buy in JKT from departure hall and carry on board to KUL.

I have bought duty free liquors both inbound and outbound in LCCT and KLIA from what I remenber. Absolut vodka and all variants were available. However, make sure you finish the bottle before flying back to Indonesia. Last September I was transiting in KL coming back from Thailand and heading to Manado. I bought a few bottles of Rhum in duty free in Chiang Mai and spent a night in KL before boarding my plane to Manado. The custom officers refused to let me board with my precious bottles in cabin and forced me to put them in my check in luggages. I wasn't surprised to find out that half were broken after landing. Since then, and as a matter of reprisal, I've decided to boycott Malaysia.

You won't be able to hand carry more than 1 litre, and if you intend to come back to Indo you will have to check it in, they will not allow any hand carry without sealed bag. LCCT was little different from the duty free in the main building. You will be flying into the main building however.
The choice in the main building is close on useless too, and Malaysian duty free sometimes will enforce the restrictions of your destination country. One passport, one bottle.
Always worthwhile buying Dansk vodka on the way in and checking it into to the hold on the way back, those Aluminum bottles don't break.
If you are on a tourist visa, Malaysia Airlines WILL try and force you to show a (return)ticket, suggest that you prepare (which way you like) a printed proof of return ticket.
The food choices in either building are dire, though the LCCT does have a pay for lounge which may be worthwhile if you have a long layover.

Must have been a drag, especially to recover your bags after check in. to put your bottles inside. In the LCCT, even worse, check in, then through a pre-security check, then passport control , then security. In the main building is it not nearly the same? Once inside, very difficult to get back through?

Malaysia customs is more restrictive than Indonesia, and they stole our sate and batik.

Never happened to me. Neither in LCCT nor in KLIA... Did you piss off the girl at the cashier?

It happened in LCCT. There is an old saying that says "when in doubt, ask". The fact that I was staying overnite in KL, and not being on an onward flight directly to Manado made me suspicious about my bottles of Rhum. I then asked to talk to a security officer before checking in my luggages for the KUL-MDC flight. He then confirmed me what I was suspicious about. If you stay overnite in a city, even if the bottles you have are in a sealed back from a duty free shop (it was) from an airport you have flied out... you are screwed. The cashier receipt, showing the date of the alcohol you have purchased is trapped in the sealed back for security to check. It must then be stored in your check in luggage if you are not on an onward flight the same day. If I would have done a CNX-KUL-MDC, staying only a day in KL, it would have been fine. The overnite stay was fatal for my bottles. Too bad.

Are you often transiting in KL, Eurodude... We could arrange a meeting there rather than in Bali or Jakarta... :whistle:Business lounges are quite OK for a drink in KLIA.

Not at all, she is only acting for the best after all, we wouldn't want to be in breach of import regulations after all would we? It was a boy too, though not so good looking.

It's been quite some time that those plastic bags for liquid have been about, good point about the date though, I've never seen anyone check it so long as the seal has been intact ( and the bag was clearly from the country of departure ). Thinking about it, you were in breach of Malaysian alcohol import regulations http://www.5starmalaysia.com/Malaysia-Customs-Duty-Free.htm when you brought these items in, unless perhaps the children were able to claim the allowance.
Tell me it's not true....

And no, generally Singapore, but I prefer home turf. Will you pay?

Thanks for all the advice.

As it turned out we had a while to wait for our flight out of Jakarta so we bought a litre each and it was presented in the sealed bag which we carried onto the aircraft.

No problem in KL.
I checked the inbound duty free price for the same bottle in KL...it was around US$ 2 more than we paid in Jakarta.
