View Full Version : Cleaning Fruit, Veg & Meat
Relocation from the UK

Hi,
I am looking for advice on cleaning fruit, vegetables and meat. I was looking into buying a Lotus Ozoniser to clean the fruit, veg and meat, but the reviews on the ozoniser is not good. In the sense that it gives off really bad chemicals during its sanitization process.
I was therefore thinking of using another way to clean my fruit, veg and meat. But I am not sure which product is best to use.
Does anybody have any good advice on cleaning your fruit, vegetables and meat?

Although it cuts away a bit of the nutrients, peeling fruits & veggies and cooking meats well provides, along with Hombre's suggestion, sufficient cleanliness for we non-phobics.

Can't argue with that. Water washing is an excellent cleaning method.
I will up the ante a bit and suggest cleaning it with not just water, but bottled water for that extra clean taste.

Ooooooooh, the extravagance, Jester.
Yeah, call me crazy, but I prefer to wash my food in clean (maybe?) water than excrement tinted water.
Much nicer on my delicate stomach.
Boiled water is quite adequate, tho you may have a few extra minerals and other solids in there...

Filtered water from any tap or boiled water works fine.

If its Jakarta water you are a boil'n, better seine out the turds first -- should cut down on the "other solids" in the end product.
Please explain when I insulted anyone or got sassy (see below message that I got)?
I was merely stating the fact that the tap water in Jakarta is of a very low quality. At no time did I refer to anyone in or out of this forum. Yes, it was an honest question and I gave an honest answer. The tap water in Jakarta is horrible and dangerous.

Please explain when I insulted anyone or got sassy (see below message that I got)? I was merely stating ... tap water in Jakarta is horrible and dangerous.
Oh you sassy boy! I have a feeling I am destine for a demerit, as well. Your suggestion was way neutral and good common sense advise, especially appropriate for the newbies.
That's what I thought. I wasn't being offensive to anyone, just stating the cold hard facts of water here. I actually just read somewhere (can't remember where) that Indonesia has something like 30% (?) of the worlds water, but it is mostly polluted. That is a big shame. I think water is fast becoming a precious commodity that could trade well if it is clean and abundant.
It seems to me to be an inappropriate action giving you demerit points for what you said Jester.
What has happened is that a member has reported your post, who knows why and given Atlantis isn't around, he wouldn't do it anyway, Paman has given you the infraction notice, undeservedly I might add.
I would PM Wm {Danielle} and make a complaint about heavy handedness!

I am totally with the Jester - my three weeks in Jakarta with TWO traveller's stomach ache and diarrhea...honest! no pun intended. I USED Aqua bottle water for washing my foods and brushing my teeths and NO ice cubes for my drinks (yeahh..I missed my 'Cosmo'Martini).

I have no object, Hombre....I underestimated my own stomach - not fun but I am glad it's over..
Baking soda is probably what your are looking for. You can find it at Carrefour.
the tap water in Jakarta is of a very low quality.
Agreed. Jakarta is one of the rare place in Indonesia where I do brush my teeth with Aqua. You won't have me put tap water in my mouth there. Sure fact.

I thought the water company was giving away free sausages. Bugger. That explains the stomach ache.
Seriously. I wash me and the veg with tap water with no problem but I won't use it to clean my teeth. Aqua for that one.
Short of anything else, tastes rough.
Apart from some areas such as Jakarta, tap water is fine for brushing ones teeth, providing a good rinse with Listerine afterwards is part of the routine, works for me...

Let's get this one straight OM....you take your teeth out...scrub them under the tap....rinse them a few times in a jar of Listerene...then replace?
Is this an advert for Listerene...or what?
and what do you suggest we Jakarta homies do?
Maybe use the powerful flushing action of the toilet, especially as I use that blue stuff as a disinfectant...that should work!
Then I can use that spray thingy next to the toilet ...it is an Indonesian version of the water-pik, isn't it? :rain:

nothing wrong with it at all.
in fact it was just the right amount of sassy to make the board interesting. do admin want a sterile webpage? then they should write a blog and let someone else run a forum.
Try using Ozone Fresh for washing all your fuit, vegetables and meat. I have one at home and it's very good. Ozone Fresh generates a small amount of ozone to naturally eliminates pesticides, formaline and other chemicals that may come with your food. That way, you can eat healthy and with ease. Using tap water is not very wise because tap water here is high in inorganic minerals. Apart from that, chemicals contamination in food usually penetrates the outer skin and therefore not easily washable.
