View Full Version : Too much flaming
What happened to this forum??? I have spent 6 weeks out of Indonesia that left me only few minutes per week to read the threads and I have to admit that I am puzzled by the number of reported posts and flaming posts.
I have spent 6 of the most depressing weeks of my life in the cold Europe, but to be honest, it still look more appealing than some of the posts I've read here.
Sad...really sad. I am eager to have more time to take care of this.:banplease:
Two more weeks and I should be back.
Well said Atlantis, as I said before, I'm mentioning no names, but I was getting cheesed off with some of the crap that was been written on, in my opinion, a great forum. Hopefully it will stop because I feel it borders on racism. I believe that anyone can post messages here, whether they be expats living in Indonesia or Indonesiand themselves. Some of the stull that was written and said about female Indonesians who posted here was to put it mildly, not very nice. Suffice to say if my Indonesian wife or in fact anyone elses Indonesian wife had of posted here and got those type of comments the least of anyones worries would be to have been to read a reply on the forum, in my case it would have been a more substantive reply if you know what I mean:rip:, hahaha.
On another topic, I'm just trying to figure out what to cook for Christmas dinner. I saw a really tasty recipe for a glazed ham if anyone is interested. Simple to make abd so yummy:).
Take care,
Ray:peace:
I totally agree with DR50 :), who we all can see is a little more calmer than me when it comes to matters like this.
I just put on my iron knuckles and go to war. :laser:
I will be nicer though cause I know my violent actions harm the forum as well, even if it is for a good cause. :bounce:
But at least I'm not pretending to be someone I am not :P and I stand for my errors and mistakes like a grown up should.
I've just received an insulting (and drippingly sarcastic) mail from a moderator under the guise of an excuse for deleting perhaps "one of the finest pieces of satire to hit Expat Forum (this week)." And no, it wasn't Gratilla that originally said that.
I can't post the mod's PM, as I don't have his permission to do so ... and I doubt that he would give it ... and, and because it's insulting, it would be against forum rules to post it. So, hmmm.
I've been (unilaterally) accused, tried and convicted (in absentia) of posting a msg that, "Insulted Other Member(s)". Who the "Other Member(s)" was/(were) and more relevantly, "exactly What the insult was" were NOT SPECIFIED. This is even more Draconian than Indonesia's (Anti-)Defamatory Laws.
The absolutely amusing irony is that he (the moderator) actually agreed with my post!
On a not-completely-unrelated topic, if certain mods cannot adequately perform their "onerous unpaid voluntary duties" <their words, not mine>, then why do they not simply resign? There are one or two regular posters here that are sufficiently humourless to qualify as replacements.

my friend said, he joined hookah forum, then he said to control the activity, the Super Mods, and Mods, choose 5 others supporting mods taken from active
members for every 6months-1year...
it must be a very good one or expert in hookah...love hookah and know about it very well...well this is just an idea hit my mind...
how about if we adopt this way...
choosing regular mods, if 5members, maybe 1indonesian and 4 foreigners since the forum members mainly are the expats living in Indonesia...
just an idea...
hope the forum grows better, i found so much information and met great friends from here... :)
thank you
Maybe this site could have a "Flame Away" forum... where people can fight, debate whatever... and get it out in the open... with the strictest proviso of not bringing it into the other forums here.
I'm yet to see any internet message board that can be continuously free of debates and pointy comments; I'm suggesting a "harm minimization" approach... to manage it rather than prohibit it.
Its a need of any group to vent and debate issues and have a spat once in a while. Isn't it?

The powers that be have always rejected this idea because they don't want that kind of a forum to be related to this site. One thing they say is, "If you want to flame and argue, join another forum". I would think it would cut down on moderators having to work as hard in the main forum but could be wrong about that. It would be worth trying for a number of months. If it didn't seem to work well the idea could be ditched.

It could have a creative or comical title... Fight club.. or Jelly Wrestling... and still have some basic rules, proper debating rules, not just abuse and name calling... but sarcastic disembowelment would be okay...
EDIT: PS: Its the same principle as a house having a fire place. It fulfills a need without burning the house down. :flame::flame::flame:

Sounds like the plot of a book I read once. Kafka´s The Trial.

Like the Balibo five, your fine bit of sarcasm got gunned down in the cross-fire, Grats. Your defense was also a fine piece of work.

I've added to your rep. Should make a balance, no?
I have often appreciated your sense of humour and a number of your posts and am a bit surprised by what I've just read. Mind forwarding me the litterature you are talking about?
I will be nicer though...
It does sound a good idea in my opinion and am glad to read that. If you feel offended or insulted by a post, just report it and don't comment it in an agressive manner on the board. It does not help in any way your cause, believe me.
Thanks for keeping the above in mind before pressing the submit/reply button .

Oh ya they are open to ideas. They often then reject them. Keep em coming. The more you give the better chance one will be accepted.
The flame forum has been suggested before but i dont like it. Could you really say you would forget insults on that channel while posting on others?
Ps. I'm devoid of humour. Can i be a mod please?
The flame forum has been suggested before but i dont like it. Could you really say you would forget insults on that channel while posting on others?I see what you're saying there Mas, it might be like one of those horrendous farts you're doing at the moment... whats to say if you do one in one room it won't waft through the whole house... But I'm not suggesting anything that poisonous. Not a license for hatred etc, just a place to settle disagreements... some people are very transactional while others interact more.. I've noticed there are many dynamics between people here that need expression rather than arbitrary shutting down in my little noobile opinion. Otherwise it surely will come out sideways like a leaking collostomy bag and tensions and fights will break out again in the main forums. Just somewhere to be personal and direct. Relationships need that at certain times... at least its in the open rather in private messaging scandals...
Thats it from me now... :D :yield:
There's a reason I don't show up here often, and it's not the posters. Advocated a few times before to set up an 'everything goes' area in the forum where people can post whatever the heck they want, as mean or nasty as they want to get. If you don't wanna see it, don't read it.
Any off-topic banter, trolling, or slugfests can be moved in there.
Problem solved.

Why don't you guys that want this kind of place set-up your own forum?
It's not hard.
Don't sit and wait for someone else to do the work for you.
If you want it, just do it.
Like I said, it really isn't hard to set-up a forum.
When you have the URL just post it here and then wait and see who will join.
Problem solved.
There are so many "Why don't you..." questions I could ask you Sandman.

Better chance of just moving it to the flame channel when they pop up. It's not like there haven't been any, aren't any and won't be any more. There is only one way to find out and it's not by not creating one.
I've added to your rep. Should make a balance, no?
More than compensates, thanks. And here is my prepared acceptance speech:
On exactly the same day as one mod was binning one of my posts after slapping it with an infraction, another mod was complementing a parallel thread, awarding it a zillion reputation points - thus boosting me into two (green) nut status.
Go figgur. :crazy::confused2:
I have often appreciated your sense of humour and a number of your posts and am a bit surprised by what I've just read. Mind forwarding me the litterature you are talking about?
The "litter" is on its way. And let me make it perfectly clear to our (three, OK two) readers, the above blushingly embarrassing comments were NOT a paid endorsement!!!
Ps. I'm devoid of humour. Can i be a mod please?
I think mebbe you're over-qualified!
Why don't we just simply all get together and give each other lots of hugs? I think we might learn something (like who smells the worst).
I'd welcome the flaming thread, although I wouldn't bother to read it. I get flamed enough as it is in threads where flaming is outlawed.

You fail at reading, the reason I suggested that to begin with is that by opening a subforum where anything goes, the rules can be followed by everyone. You want to be disruptive, go do it in there. That way the main forums stay clean, and full of useful information.
Why fragment the community (or what's left of it) by starting another forum?
But I guess I might just take you up on it.
Firstly, I think the powers to be on this forum do a pretty good job, they are volunteers and have been running an informative website for over 10 years that has help allot of expats including myself.
Secondly, if you feel like you have been insulted simply report it, don't respond because generally you are adding fuel to the fire.
Thirdly, if you think that a person is constantly throwing around insults or you think they responses aren't worth reading don't read it...pretty simple really.
Lastly, you can generally pick the people who steal a thread as they do it all the time. I don't normally have an issue with it because if it is your OP you can always steer it back to where you want it, or just wait until they get bored then respond. Some of the antics that go on can be humorous in an expat kind of way, something which most Indonesians struggle with at the best of times. If you are Indonesian, don't take most of the posts literally, because of the warped expat humour there is normally an underlying message or humour in it that is difficult to explain in writing. The worst thing about the English language is trying to explain it and you can take it in so many ways.
All the best...
I do not believe this.
Correction. I almost do not believe this.
I now have another mod on my back, with another red mark AND a four letter word - RUDE! Not much to aim at.
Does giving negative rep to guys with a string of (unearned) green nuts have any effect???
On the bright side, I also have a couple more guys giving me greenies. Thanks mates.
on a brighter note, merry christmas to one and all!

this is the biggest wank of it all innit, fair enough if it was a fair playing field, but to give oneself a string of greens to pretend that their voice and comments are most respected by all and use it to send reds is just first class wankery.

B.. B.. But their "Reputation is beyond repute"!!!
Innit???

Is it THAT time of year ALREADY?
BTW, did you enjoy your Christmas "Pressie"?
Not talking about anyone in particular, but these people just crave attention. They are the lord or lady of their little world. The only place that they can get the attention that they crave so desperatly here on the forum. You have to feel sorry for them, don't ya?:)
Ray:peace:
who cares - get a life.
That has to be the winning post of the thread. Ray did it jolly well but you were so concise. :)
