Hi,

I am looking for a Lotus Sanitizing System. Does anybody know where I can find this in Jakarta. Or any other sanitizing system (for food)?

Sure, very common in all markets, it is called Sambal.

I had a google or dozen looking for this one and came up with nothing at all.
Indonesian business is yet to grasp the net and make use of it so that does not mean there are not around.

Looks like the sambal and street pounding are your best bets.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, but I am not sure what you mean by Sambal. Isn't Sambal a food spice?

The device I am looking for (Lotus Sanitiser) is an electrical advice that sterilises fruit, veg and meat. Does anybody know this device?

Yes it is, hence the friendly sarcasm above, it will disinfect your food whilst you eat it.
The sambal here is like fire so don't take the above too seriously, they know what you are looking for but trying to give you a local alternative a bit "tongue in cheek" so to speak :smile2:

Take Fred's advice and pound the streets or better the likes of Carrefour if you don't fancy that contact the manufacturer for advice on a local supplier or buy from Amazon. I have already checked and Amazon have them in stock.:smile2:

I have not seen the item around here, but then again I have not been looking for one. Perhaps you might find it in Sogo or other upscale department store. You may be relegated to buying abroad and imposing on a friend, relative, or colleague to act as currier. The other common alternative is an excursion to Singapore -- again done personally or or by a friend you have roped into housewares shopping on your behalf.

Cheaper to buy from Amazon I would think than go to SG. I have already posted they have them in stock.

Yes, but I don't think Amazon ships this sort of item to Indonesia. Even if they did the shipping cost will likely be quite high. When I said buy abroad and have a friend bring it to Jakarta, I was thinking of Amazon. If you have an internet connection and a credit card you can purchase the item on-line, and have it delivered to you friend's address. The friend coming to Jakarta probably should take the item out of the original box when packing so it can be claimed as a used item for personal use.

I am also not suggesting that one fly off to Singapore every time a small kitchen appliance is needed, but if you or a friend are going to go there for other reasons ...

Only a suggestion. Get one from Amazon rather go to SG on the off chance or do without. I'm sure within one minute of requesting it from Amazon they wil say Yes or No. Is that true or false?

I'm not arguing with you WA just offering advice.:smile2:

I was not speculating. I have tried to buy small appliances from Amazon, always to find, at least so far, that none could be shipped to Indonesia. Books are another story; they will ship here but the cost is outrageous.

No one said you were, I was only offering advice on where it could be bought. The same place you post you buy your books from. Anything wrong in that?:confused

I see nothing in Waarms posts to indicate he thinks there is anything wrong with you giving advice. Why the question?

I think Trev is going to be with us for a while, Pimpin. I have decided to just ignore the gratuitous elements of his remarks -- excepting perhaps for this aside to you.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!! And for the sambal - hehehe!!! It sounds like the easier option :smile2:

I am planning a trip to Singapore in January, so by the sounds of it, it will be the easiest to pick it up from there.

Thanks again.
