Hello,
have you tried Penang Bistro? Its in 2nd floor of Oakwood Hotel Appt.or in Jalan Hang Lekir near RSP.Pertamina...
or,
please also try Laksa Singapura in Tamani Cafe, or Mee (Mi) Goreng in Chopstick restaurant, you can also try Meradelima or Miradelima in Pondok Indah Mall 2...
Secret Recipe Restaurant also has Mee Goreng and some Asian foods...

Chopstick Restaurant has wide choices of Asian foods too, available in many malls and quite reasonable price...Rp.8.000-Rp.46.000 for food and from 5.000-17.000 fr drinks if the prices r nt changed :D

Sometime I had also laksa in a warung kaki lima (street seller) in Bintaro sektor 9 bt im sorry, i forgot the name of the warung...i love cooking so when i tried the food i tried to guess what kind of seasonings they used inside...sometime made laksa too at home...

There's a place in Mal Puri Indah called Ah Mei Cafe that's absolutely lovely. I have no idea if they're a chain or not, but the most of food is cooked to order (not fast food) and the prices are reasonable. We go there once a week or so for the Roti Prata set with curry chicken and a side order of chicken curry puffs. Oh! Speaking of curry puffs, there's a little kiosk inside the Puri Indah Hero that sells lots of different puffs-- the apple ones are so good! We usually buy a box of them and sneak 'em into the theatre to snack on while we watch a movie-- so much better than popcorn! Mmmmm... Is it lunch time yet?

We've eaten at Penang Bistro a few times and found it... Lacking. Over-priced. Without character. A bit bland. Maybe we just had bad luck, but we really didn't like it.

If you just want *cheap* roti canai/prata, there's a place next door to Memories on Jaksa that sells a serving of veggie curry and roti for about Rp. 8.000 each. It's not the best in the world (the roti is good-- it's the curry that's hit and miss) but it's cheap.

There is a place that claims to sell Singapore Hawker food on the supermarket level of Pacific Place just past sour Sally. I have found it be quite good (satisfies the need) although the menu isn't as extensive as I would like. The Char Kwe Teow is good and the Nasi Lemak is always good.

It's Q something right next to the exit of the car park right? The owner is Jimmy or something whom use to manage the Chatter Box which one upon a time serve excellent Hainan Chicken Rice but no more since he left to open this resturant.

Tried the Char Kwe Teow twice and not impressed.

I was invited to a dinner a couple nights ago. In honor of my residency for the past 6yrs the host suggested we go for Malay/Singaporean Cuisine. Well you can imagine my suprise when I found this restaurant to be located in the heart of Chinatown (downtown San Francisco, California). Needless to say, the food left a lot to be desired and I have never been to a Malay restaurant with so much "Swine" being served and I consider myself a food aficiando.

In either case...it got me to thinking of how much I really miss the Ayam Goreng and Nasi Kandar found along the roadsides in Malaysia / Singapore & Jakarta. Didn't know how much I missed the cuisine. I sure know how much now!!!!

Sorry if I sound stupid here, but isn't malaysian and indo food pretty much the same? Both countries keep claiming dishes as their own national food. I have beef rendang here and have had it in malaysia too...

yes in some foods we have similarities...not all...we never claimed and registered some foods as ours, the Minister of Tourism said, it might be similar, because we are neighboring countries what they made there, might also use the same ingredients like we have here too...
many indonesian also live there, open restaurant and made the same food like us here...have you ever heard Malaysia claimed "Ketupat" is their original tradition and registered it as their national cultural richnesses and when we read it..we're just like "well, whatever...they can claim anything they want..." i discussed this too with some of my family members who are from Malaysia and we're just " oh..lets say, its from indonesia, malaysia even singapore..."

hm...the difference might be found,in some foods like...Indonesian curry is different with Malaysian curry...Mee Go Reng there and
Mie Goreng here is also a bit different...please try to prove what i've said :D
go and get Mee Go Reng in asian restaurant who listed it as Malaysian Food and go to for example, Bakmi GM and order Mie Goreng...that will be different...or go to Jalan Malioboro Yogya and try the bakmi goreng in kaki lima...that will be different too...but all r delicious..

from what i've ever eaten,malaysian way is a bit more oily,deeper sauce...no?
anyway..i love all,indonesian,singaporean,malaysian food...

since indonesia has more ethnic groups, it can be said, indonesia has wider culinary trips destinations :D

Thanks Drahman,

I guess you are right. As for taste, I had Beef Rendang in Malaysia and thought it tasted terrible. Much better taste here.

sama-sama...
yes,the best rendang is if its cooked with fresh coconut milk,4-5hours using small fire, and best if using charcoal, kayu bakar and should stir well...trick i learnt from my padangnese friend...and we could eat the rendang from her hometown in padang up to 2weeks with no smell at all...
its 10.25 and im hungry again..LOL..

Hi guys,
My recommendations is as follows
1) Prata is the best at kota opposite Plaza Gajah Mada at a place called mutabak har - cabang dari palembang(I did not get the exact spelling) There is teh tarik there as well. If you have the appetite, nasi brayani(kambing) is really good.
2)Puilt village(Mega Mall) have a Singapore food court. The mince meat mushroom mee pok is ok lah. Can eat. Maybe 7/10. It's mee pok by the way and not the normal bakmi lebar so the texture will be different.
3)Penang bistro is really average for me. Q box will be better at Pacific place for char k.t. talk to jimmy and he may surprise you with a good serving of char kt
4) Bakut teh at kota(beside hotel Jayakarta) in a place called Da Jia should be not too bad. I give 8/10 maybe slightly too sweet compared to sg/my standards.

I have not read the entire thread so I am sorry if I am repeating on anyone's recommendation.
