Hi all, relocating soon to Batam and need to know about some Healthcare in advance!

My youngest son, 13months, is under Paediatric Health care in Scotland for an undiagnosed growth problem.

We have ongoing routine appotintments here in Scotland and when we cme out to Batam will have private health insurance through my husbands company.

Does anyone know of any good Paediatricians in Batam or am I best skipping over to Singapore for apppointments?

Can I even do that anyway???

Sorry, am not very knowledgable on Indonesia yet!! :confused2:

Thanks x

Definitely Singapore as far as I'm concerned!
Make sure you get a MERP {Multiple Exit/Re entry Permit} when your KITAS is issued {for all the family members}, Singapore is just a reasonably short ferry ride away...
I would also obtain a letter from your son's treating practitioner in Scotland outlining his condition and treatment regime for the Doctors you consult with over here.
Also if you intend to bring any Medications for him or the rest of the family, obtain another letter from your Doctor listing them all and the Medical reasons for having them. Some Medications will require previous approval from the Singaporean Health Authorities even if just transiting Changi Airport. This is easily available by filling in the appropriate form a couple of weeks before arrival.
The Indonesian authorities allow the importation of reasonable amounts of Medication for personal use, but again a letter and or the Scripts from your Doctor should be available for Customs should they question you.

Thanks for your great reply :smile2:

Luckily he is only on a special milk formula in terms of medication for the time being but due to see some specialists in March in UK. Will get onto husband's work and ensure they set up the KITAS in the way you have described (another thing I need to research).

I had read somewhere on another thread or on Batam info site that we should ensure our medical cover includes helicopter flights to Singapore hospitals in case we have a severe accident or emergency which is a bit scary but I suppose that's what they do in the Outer Hebrides in Scotand anyway when they have to fly to the mainland!!:lol:

Hello...

Yes, there are some good Paediatricians in Batam hospitals, the hospital name are Awal Bros Hospital and Budi Kemuliaan hospitals, but if you still not confident enough, i suggest to go to Singapore for better treatment, since Batam & SDingapore is very nearby, it is only 45 minutes transportation time by ferry, anyway, feel free to contact me directly, it's my pleasure to guide you ( since I stay in Batam )...at [email protected]

regards,
yanti
