View Full Version : Looking for old classics pre 1973
I prefer junkers with good bodies and either american or british for resto work. I have seen some restored american muscle cars around jakarta and will have a little free time coming up.

Anything with a US V8 is hard to come by. I have seen only one for sale on Kaskus -- a Ford Mustang. There are usually a Morris Mini or two listed on the site, along with many VWs from the 60s & 70s.
just the body is fine since i can put together the engine and interior with scraps or materials and even a straight six works for me.

If you fancy something with 2 wheels and a little less horse power just give me a shout mate.
As for the Cars would suggest the Jakarta/ Indonesian autotrader magazine as they have a section on Classic cars for sale and there were a few in there last time i looked. If you are into MK 2 Ford consuls there is one for sale just up the road from my office in Bali i will get you the number on it if you are. Just let me know.
kind hard to fab some of the parts on those mk2 but might be good for the sheet metal down the road. I dont mind if its none running and sitting by the side of the road collecting dust and dirt or snakes. For two wheels what did you have in mind.

3 guesses mate :bounce:
maybe a 1960s Vespa perhaps, hours of fun rebuilding them and they will cost you less than a car. Take up less space to so the wife is happier.
might be fun to fix and new type of job for me since i have never fixed one of those. Cant say on the wife part but when it comes to projects that is why a garage is good as a safe haven for us men.

I has seen more that one outlandishly customized scooter plying the streets of Jakarta. Avdog, if you are into attaching scraps and the odd piece of junkyard salvage, the Vespa seems to be a good platform.
Yah i have seen those gits too running around. Though just not into looking like a sideshow reject. I actually like to have a nice finished product that people will say wow nice job and not what in gods name where you thinking.

Yes, perhaps we have seen the same ones, Avdog, and usually the driver is more of a customized freak that this scooter. You never know what you are going to find around the next corner in Jakarta.

Yeah i agree, it kills me to see beautiful classic scooters bastardised in this way and turned into something from a mad max film. I also like the cool clean classic look of the original vespa, maybe with changes to the paint colour and perhaps a bit of chrome. Most of the riders on the mad max type scooters do this in order to change the appearance of the scooter as they are more into the biker image but dont have the big money needed to buy a harley or a brit motorbike.
When i see these guys i always smile to myself as they have no idea that they have just taken a classic scooter that is quickly esculating in Value as stocks world wide deplete (SS180 = 65 million rupiah GS 160 = 80 million plus) and put an angle grinder to it in order to look cool, which is a bit like drawing glasses and a moustache on the mona lisa and thinking youre being ever so witty.
Check this out 1962 Dodge Dart 6 cylinder

I came across this BJ42 here in Jakarta. Alledgedly there were only 10 imported to Indonesia. It's not pre-1973 but if a 40-series Land Cruiser is not a classic, I don't know what is...

Om, further to my original advice, this is what you should have picked up...

There's a few of those running around Solo, nicely done up too, however I get enough rattles and shakes from the beast kecil thanks...I'm reconsidering something far more comfortable for my poor old bones...

What you see plenty of in Indonesia are FJ40 and FJ41, that is, with the older and really thirsty petrol engines. The one above is a rare BJ42 with the 3B diesel engine (you know me, I'm a sucker for diesel). That being said, I did come across a BJ42 for sale in Solo in the for-sale ads. It was going for US$15,000.
My truck is for sale, if you seek a little more comfort.
There is (was?) two for sale recently in Manado. Fully restored. Both were above the price you quoted if I remenber well. USD18K and 20K more or less.
I looking to restore and not buy what has been done by some one else.

bj42?
bj42?
Iyo... Bj42... at least from what the ad in the Manado Post was saying. This is the price & the "BJ" that attracted my attention. FJ40 & FJ41 are very common here and I first thought it was a typo. The price however left me little doubt.
I have a 1972 LJ Holden Torana for sale if you are interested. Original 6 cylinder engine and essentially original all over except for the AC and power steering. Got some rust in the body which I have started to cut out, but it is not much anyway. still has 4 years on the plates. Registered in Semarang where I have a friend who renews the tax every year. I have another car also a Holden, so I don't need the the Torana anymore.
Contact me on my HP 081932888304 or by email at
[email protected] if you are interested.
Post some pics of the cars and price.
Ok I will try to take some over the weekend.
