White Horse Press Secretary Robert Gibbs only revealed that Mr Obama is planned to pop up at the APEC meeting in Singapore, which will be held on 14-15 November 2009. Therefore, according to Mulyani, theIndonesian consul general in New York Indonesian government expected that Obama may pop up in Indonesia during the said period.
Mr Obama spent his childhood in Jakarta between 1967 and 1971 with his mother and step father in Menteng Dalam, a crowded area in the center of Jakarta. (vivanews)

Indonesian Terrorists Hoping To Target Obama Have No Chance, Experts Say
Several terrorism experts on Friday refuted the theory that militants were planning to use snipers to attack US President Barack Obama’s convoy during his anticipated visit to Indonesia.
Dynno Chressbon, an intelligence analyst at the Center for Intelligence and National Security, said earlier that Ario Sudarso and Mohamad Syahrir, who were declared suspects in the July 17 JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotel suicide bombings by police on Wednesday, had allegedly been prepared as snipers for an attack against Obama. Obama is widely expected to visit Indonesia when he attends the APEC summit in Singapore in November.
Chressbon also said that the men planned to attack the convoy using MK-IIIs, a Russian-made rifle that has been used by the Taliban in Afghanistan and in Muslim conflict areas in the Philippines. However, security analyst and terrorism expert Noor Huda Ismail said that although similar rifles had been used, the attacks in Afghanistan and the Philippines mainly targeted law enforcers and civilians with minimum security and protection. “To target someone like Obama, they would need to infiltrate the US Secret Service and get the president’s security details,” Ismail said. “The perpetrators also have to consider that the Secret Service would take extreme security measures and secure areas within shooting range from the president.” Ismail said that although he was convinced Obama would be an ideal target for terrorists, carrying out such an attack would be near impossible.
“A plot like that would take years of preparations and planning,” he said. “They don’t have the resources to do it or the experience in targeting a head of state.”

I think your guess is wrong, Santoso. In the first place, Obama's visitation was more speculation than fact, and the "postponement," is even more so. To suggest that the phantom visit was canceled out of fear is laughable, especially since the only group even remotely capable of organizing an assassination attempt has seen most of its members killed or captured.

I kind of agree with your statement Waarmstrong. With Nordin's cell half decapited, what remain from it think more to save their worthless skin than to attempt a big coup in my opinion. If Obama's visit has been postpone, it ain't for security reason. I believe that Obama went in more dangerous places than Indonesia.

Next month President Barrack Obama will visit Jakarta for couple days. A group of US Security Services have already come to SDN 01 Menteng for visit preparation. Is his visit sentimental only or any beneficial for Indonesia?

If it was for sentimental reasons alone, he wouldn't come!
It's primarily designed to offset the growing Chinese influence in the region, full stop!
Korpussus hopes it will have benefits for them, lets wait and see on that one, hopefully it's just wishful thinking on their behalf.
As for security issues, Simply routine procedures, that's all.
I watched a Doco once on the preparation involved in a Presidential Visit, an extrordinary amount of work and security precautions are involved, adds significantly the the American National debt I imagine ...
He will also be visiting Austrtalia around the same time and I assure you the same preparations will also be involved, down to obtaining special permission for his personal security detail to carry weapons, we just won't be as excited as Indonesians ...
I won't be surprised at all if there are some demos against his visit.

Agree, ACFTA (Asean China Free Trade Act) will strengthen China domination in ASEAN.
Korpussus hopes it will have benefits for them, lets wait and see on that one, hopefully it's just wishful thinking on their behalf.
Yup, KOPASSUS (Special Forces) will get job and benefits from this visit as security under TNI responsibility.
I won't be surprised at all if there are some demos against his visit.
I think demos will happen concerning with Palestinian-Israel issues, unavoided. Obama hasn't successfully create any peace among them.

Regardless of the reasons behind the visit, Obama turning up here gladhanding SBY and the lads will do a power of good for Indonesia in general or at least SBY and his mates.
Any visit will be likely to bring deals of some sort to the country so I can see Indonesia benefiting from it.
Terrorists may be a threat and the happy death of the idiot Top and his pals does not mean they are not a force you can dismiss. Of course their objective in killing Obama would be more likely to keep their very profitable little game running rather than anything else.
Or am I cynical?

Although the current local political situation is still warmed with the Century bank case, President Barrack Obama will visit Indonesia from March 20 to 22, 2010. According to TNI spokesmen Marshal Sagom Tamboen, the country is ready for his visit. Kopassus (TNI Special Force) will get advantage from this visit as US will lift ban on education and training for Kopassus for a long time.

RI aims at resolution of military ban in US partnership: Ministry

Jakarta is seeking a “long-term political commitment” with Washington to resolve pending issues in the comprehensive partnership that leaders of both countries will launch this month, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
“In the comprehensive partnership, we’ll identify problems we’ve encountered, including the ban on [US training for Army Special Forces] Kopassus,” Retno L. P. Marsudi, the ministry’s director general for American and European affairs, said after a press conference with the visiting Dutch economic minister.
“The comprehensive partnership is an impetus for both parties to enhance relations, and we have communicated well so far.”
Under the Leahy Law, the entire Kopassus unit is banned from receiving US military education or training, following allegations of their involvement in a number of atrocities in restive provinces.
The law says the ban will only be lifted if the Indonesian government takes adequate legal steps to prosecute implicated officers.
Jakarta has been lobbying Washington to lift the ban, which is also believed to include bans on several generals from entering the US.
Former defense minister Juwono Sudarsono said Tuesday that Washington was close to lifting the ban as the ban’s main sponsor, Sen. Patrick Leahy, had “accepted” Jakarta’s progress in investigating officers accused of rights abuses.

President Obama's visit will end today. It's a nostalgic visit or "pulang kampung" as he said. His lecture at Indonesia University this morning was really just general, not substantive. He talked about development, democracy and tolerance for peace in life, but in fact America failed to force democracy in Iraq, and so far hasn't be successful to push Israel and Palestine in peace. Even in Iraq and Afganistan, according to Wilileaks many people died as victim of unclear wars.
