Anybody here have a good recommendation of a nice hang out place to meet new friends?

I don't smoke nor drink (other than wine) so maybe pubs, nightclubs or discotheques is kinda out of the question. The only way for me to tolerate it is if there's an EPL football match showing on a large screen inside the place.

As for cafes... well, I think the people at the nearby Starbucks are getting annoyed by me coming there so often.

A club, association, or course, maybe? I really need to widen my circle.

No smoking rules out Indonesia. If you donīt smoke, Singapore may be a good place to hang out.

Good answer Hombre. Sandal check out www.expat.or.id (http://www.expat.or.id) for all the listings of clubs and associations. Hope you find something there that will catch your eye.

I'm curious. What are/were you doing to annoy the Starbucks people???

In Aphrodite, Klub Rasuna behind Pasar Festival they allow smoking but the exhaust in there is pretty good so you might be able to stand it in there. They play a lot of football on the televisions and large screen.

Maybe he asked for a "large" rather than a "grandee" or whatever presumptuous jargon they are using these days.

Right?

I can omly (sic - nice word) think of a few scenerios why a regular paying customer would be annoying, one of them unprintable - even on expatfor!

Hombre, You're so right! :)

Rushingdoll and Pimpin, thanks, I think I'm gonna check some of the clubs out this weekend.

Gratilla and Waarmstrong, Well, my bad. I should never assume. I thought having a regular paying customer who spend half a day buying only a cup or two there might annoy them in some way? I don't know. Again, I'm sorry for my poor choice of words and assumption.
Actually, the Starbucks people are quite nice and friendly.
Sometimes too friendly. This, to me, is kinda scary.

Anyway enough about the Starbucks, so where do you guys usually hang out?

I have same question like u too, sandal, coz im too stuck with all places i've ever been before, tryin looking nice, comfort & cozy place around Jakarta.

But our difference is im smoking, regularly, like train, :p

Usually i spent times at Central Jakarta, i try going lil bit south now, but at that area is not really open 24 hr (except Kemang), im a night person anyway, :bounce:

Sometimes i spent times at Jaksa street (KL what yeah ?), Skybuilding area (Starbucks, Burger King, Oh La La, Chilis, Inul and else).

Going around to Old Jakarta (Batavia, they look cool at night).

I dont really like mall, if i had something to do, then i'll goin there.

Any suggestion anyone ?

Thanks before.

Coud you please define what are nice, cozy and comfy for you? So maybe we can have a better idea?
Because Oh Lala Thamrin (I assume you go there because you said you hang out in Central Jakarta?) is neither cozy nor comfy. But that's me :)

Maybe you can try Black Cat in Arcadia, if you like Jazz

There may be good reasons to go to the Black Cat (e.g. to feel sophisticated, to drink over-priced drinks, relax before and in-between Red Square or X2, or to be seen), but listening to the cliched and tired Jazz "renditions" of Cole Porter standards is not one of them.
