Exchange Rupiah/AUD Indo or in Australia

I wonder if it is better to exchange Rupiah against Aus $ in Indonesia or in Australia ? where do we get the best rate ?

Definitely a better rate in Indonesia.
But i travel to Lombok about 10 times a year and it's definitely better for me to change Aussie dollar in to Rupiah in Lombok. Not sure how it goes for other places in Indo?

There's always a better rate to be had for Aussie dollars here in Indonesia than Rupiah back in Aus, Bank Century seem to offer the best rate here in Solo.
There is a legal limit to how much cash a family can bring collectively, I forget how much but seem to recall 100 Juta as a figure so bring as much as you can. If you use ATM's here it will cost you $4/5 per transaction.
We also use our Visa Debit card when the cash runs out, but again there is a one off Bank fee plus a percentage for Visa and don't calculate the going rate on the day you use it, it is calculated later when the transaction is actually debited from your Australian account.
The good news is that all transactions are guaranteed by Visa should there be any unauthorised withdrawals and monies are refunded by your Australian Financial Institution almost immediately, then depending upon the results of the investigation re credited again to either Visa or your Bank.
