Wondering if anyone has an idea on where to get a good quality tent within jakarta? have seen a few at carrefour and cartenz adventure (kuningan branch) but they all appear to be quite flimsy and i don't want my tent to be dying on me after a few camp outs...

would appreciate any suggestions, cheers

Jill

I have yet to see one in Indonesia despite years searching for one. In Singapore, prices are outrageous and there's little choice. Same thing for essentially any type of camping gear (stove, sleeping bag, etc.). I just ordered one in the U.S. and had it delivered to my mother who will be coming to visit in a few weeks. Here it is, my palazzo in the hutan, a four-person Big Agnes Pine Island 4 to be used for overland expeditions with the truck:

I also have a one-person Sierra Designs Light-Year which I brought with me several years ago. It has served me very well for close to a decade. Here it is during a trip to Sumatra last year.

Down stairs in Pim 1 (pondok indah mall), next to Metro, there is a quality camping store. It should have everything you need. Good luck!

I've been there, at that PIM camping store. They have ok tents, but certainly not of the quality of say of good Canadian- or American-made tent. A good quality tent is easily apparent by the materials, stitching, cords, zippers, netting and poles. A good quality tent will last you through years and years of hard use.

Ah yes, it would be ideal to have a tent from Mountain Equipment Coop, but I don't think my chances of finding one of such quality is easy (if possible at all) in Indo. However, the weather is quite different, so I wouldn't need a tent for colder conditions (just thoroughly rainproof!). I wish my parents were coming sooner, and they could bring me a good Canadian tent!

This is actually my first time tent shopping. What other supplies would be needed without going too out of control (money wise)?

Thanks for the PIM suggestion!

I could be persuaded to sell mine (a one-person tent and a four-person tent), if you are interested, and I can see deliver them to you in Bali. They are not cold-weather tents.

"What other supplies?"? what do you mean? what else do you needto go camping?

Hmm, persuaded to sell? How much would the 4 person tent be? And how much does it weigh? Ideally I would have been looking for a 2 person tent, but since your tent is probably better quality than the ones I would find here, I am still interested :) I am in South Jakarta now too, so there would be no need to send.
(I am assuming you are in Jakarta?)

Thanks!

As for other camping gear, I was referring to sleeping bags, sleeping mats, and such.

I thought you were in Ubud, seeing your posts a couple of months ago about finding mosquito nets here. I am in Ubud.

I'll let the tent go for Rp. 3.5 juta. At 4.25 kg, it is more of a car-camping tent, as it is not particularly light or small.

I've got a goose-down sleeping bag also that I can sell you, but unless you're going to be up at altitude it'll be too warm here in Indonesia.

I was in Ubud, but moved to Jakarta at the beginning of the month. Your tent may be a tad large, and a bit expensive for what we need. I saw that they sell Eiger gear here, and that may be sufficient for now. I really appreciate the offer though!

ps. What happened to the original post? I started the thread, but now it is saying someone else did.. the message is half mine and half someone else's. I don't really care, I just find it curious.

How does Depok compare to Ubud? Would you recommend moving there to other Ubud residents?

Hoping an exodus will make traveling through Ubud enjoyable for you and the family Hombre?

Despite the busloads of Chinese and Taiwanese tourists intent on always travelling in groups no smaller than 50 souls which clog the main arteries of Ubud during lunchtime, the place remains enjoyable, particularly during the winter months when nightime temperatures can go down to 60 degrees F. In fact, early mornings during this time of the year make me remember those crisp early autumm months back in North America. No, I was just curious about the reasons for the move from Ubud to, of all places, Depok!

Ya I was funnin with ya. Quite the extreme in many ways. I wonder if she spent enough time in Ubud to say. What do you think she would need? Ten minutes?

No idea but I see only two possible answers:
1. A bug from the server
2. An admin who did a mistake by merging two posts while he/she should have just move one post in the existing thread, saving the integrity of both posts.

What is surprising is that I can't find any notice of edition of the OP in the server's datas. Weird.
