i was baking some spiky pandan sponge cake when i heard this news on TV one's breaking news, they said that a Merpati plane went missing since have lost contact during it's flight from Sentani airport to Oksibil Airport in Jayapura, Papua. There were 16 passangers inside the plane, including crew and two kids under 5 years old, until i write this post, the SAR team still looking for its track, they still cannot find the exact location of the plane, and the passangers family is in a deep mourn and missing, they said that in papua, they always use a small plane, so it can fly lower to avoid the extreme weather exchange, but as the consequences, they have to deal with lots of mountains and thick mist, so its a high possibility to lose some point of view and contact.
indonesia has endured a series of air disasters in recent years, affecting both commercial and military aircraft, and the news about crash or missing plane is just like a daily food to me, since the European Union forbid our planes to enter their territory (recently pulled out), it must be a proof how the international community has lack trust upon us...since the last 10 years, theres about 46 accidents occurs, with more than 500 victims, largest number in the whole world...
well...my sponge cakes is just fine, fortunately, but i still cant imagine how worry they're missing their families out there, though life and death has been arranged, and im not avoiding to flight using Indonesia Airlines...
it will be nice if you guys would like to sharing opinions and how's ur feeling and trust about the indonesian flight service.
regards
anne :)

 yes...agreed that, i think it's one of Indonesian characteristic, not gentle enough to admit our incapability in something, it will be better if we're find another issues that can cover our deficiency :frown2:
Once again, corruption is the root. Any law, any standard, any control is far too easy to bypass.
I fly around Indonesia about 30 times a year and to be honest, it became a routine to check carefully the company along with the type and age of aircraft, before flying. It requires me to spend a few minutes on Internet and/or on the phone before booking a ticket, but I have a very limited trust in indonesian operators. However I don't have much choice. I must fly.
I once saw a video on youtube of an Indonesia passenger jet with gaffa tape holding a hatch down on the stbd wing.
I'll try to dig it out.
I tried to lookup that video, but all i found was this pic.

Subject: B737-400 - Do you know what this hole/section made for?
Dear Sir,
I flew with one of Indonesian airline. And when i saw to right engine through a window, I saw a strange hole on the top of the engine. Do you know what this hole/section made for? I don’t understand, why they didn’t close the hole/hatch but only used some bloody tapes and all the tapes lost during take off? Is it safe?
Thanks for your future reply
Regards,

Yes, sadly it boils down to maintenance and these low cost operators are cutting back on their maintenance to save money. Don't blame the old aircrafts itself as with proper maintenance even a much much older plane can still fly safely.
My husband just got a job in one of the local airlines and he was 'shocked' to say the least about what's going on behind the scenes LOL. Fortunately, the airline that he's working for seems to be working hard to fix their 'rating' (following the current government rating safety system). They still have a long way to regain the international trusts.

A plane with 16 people on board has gone missing over the remote Papua region of eastern Indonesia.
The journey, from Jayapura to Oksibil, usually takes 50 minutes. The region is thickly forested. Some planes that crashed there have never been found.
Three crew and 13 passengers, including two babies, were on board. The search and rescue operation is being hampered by bad weather.
Not looking good for the passengers and crew.

Well, every airlines must have its own standards of fly,of course its necessary for the government to interference and watching the procedures run, once I heard the head of indonesian Airforce said 'its unnecessary for you to ask whether the plane is proper to fly or not,the plane that had took off has passed a set of test and research whether its proper or not,so the plane that have flight in the sky MUST BE A PROPER ONE, so when it came to an accident, it must be an unpredictable error and a destiny" WTF!!! Destiny?? Lol, its a desperate answer came from a colonel major, I mean, its ok if 5. Or 10 accidents per 10 months, we can say yes,its a destiny, but 44 accidents and 500 victims?? Come on,its not a destiny, its a silly human resources and mentally ill...I even thought that there's something mystical happened here, its like we're cursed,or the earth is angry with what we have done to cheat each other and stuff...well, hope that they can find something from the rescue attempts...
The above photos show an access panel of the right engine pylon (engine's supporting structure) of a 737-400 airplane, obviously missing. On the 1st photo, a maintenance technician is applying what seems to be "high-speed" tape, a standard procedure for temporarily repairing this type of discrepancy. Airlines must use 2 main documents to act on discrepancies like this one: the minimum equipment list (MEL) and the dispatch deviations procedures guide (DDPG), both produced by the aircraft manufacturer and approved by the aviation authority of the country of manufacture. These documents tell how and under what conditions certain equipment or parts of the airplane could be deficient or missing in order to continue operating the airplane under airworthy conditions. The discrepancy shown on the photos is an example of the type of situations where the mentioned documents have to be carefully applied, as the missing panel negatively impacts the efficiency of the engine's fire suppression system in case of an engine fire (the fire suppressing agent would blow away from the potential fire area). The use of high-speed tape may have been allowed by the manuals mentioned above, but the tape was evidently not correctly applied, as is shown on the 2nd photo and is mentioned in the photographer's message to Boeing.
Not destiny nor curse is to blame here. Low cost airlines have one relatively "easy" way to maintain their fares (read internal cost structure) levels low: cutting expenditures in maintenance, training and overhead (experienced personnel). If you combine that with a corrupt oversight system that do not do their job, you then have a scenario of poor flight safety.
I heard not long ago the Indonesian government had called for an international audit of Indonesia's civil aviation regulations and organization. What was the outcome of this audit ?
Very interesting input Redsnapr... :) Thanks for it.
I once saw a video on youtube of an Indonesia passenger jet with gaffa tape holding a hatch down on the stbd wing.
I'll try to dig it out.
There was also an incredible series of photos showing an Adam Air jet that landed at Bengkulu with no nosegear hydraulics and therefore could not steer at low speed. The pilot should have returned to Jakarta where facilities exist for an emergency landing but chose to continue to Bengkulu as scheduled. That incident was a hair's breadth away from a major disaster.
Atlantis is correct - corruption is the underlying problem. Adam Air's flying circus was an extreme case but it illustrated how easy it was for an airline operator to bribe their way out of virtually any safety responsibility with the civil aviation inspectorate. That inspectorate has long been a cash cow for officials in the transport ministry which is why the ministry has resisted all moves to wrest control of the inspectorate to an independent body.

There was an old joke that involved point to the sky and saying, "look, Air asia". Doing to again and saying, "look, British Airways".
The third point would be to the floor while uttering, "Look, an Indonesian aeroplane". Crap joke but it make a valid point.
By the way Anna, don't post and drive. I really don't want to hear you are in hospital.:smile2:

I heard not long ago the Indonesian government had called for an international audit of Indonesia's civil aviation regulations and organization. What was the outcome of this audit ?
Umm...if im not mistaken, yes, in 2008,the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) has purposed to audit 4 airlines in Indonesia, and the result is that they finally found 121 diversions from international flight basic safety rules. Based on that diversion, the FAA then downgraded the Indonesia Aviation Authority.that's why EU banned us to fly across their territory, then finally, the government success to complete the regulation (Law No. 1/2009) on aviation, which is recognized by the EU as a positive progress so they released the restriction. :)
"The removal of restrictions for Indonesian airlines flying to Europe does not necessarily indicate that the safety level of our airlines has completely met international aircraft safety standards. There is still a lot of work to do." (Chappy Hakim, Chairman of Civil Aviation Transformation Team)

A young Australian lady was texting whilst driving not so long ago and ran into a cyclist, unfortunately the cyclist died and the young ladies life is now ruined having been convicted for manslaughter.

Yes sir, thought about how can I ruined my own life if I accidentaly slaughter someone, that's why I did it in a highway there's no cycle, however, yes I admit that my bad habit is dangerous, my mother also warned me about that many times..because whenever she take a look at my car, she always found that middle dashboard mirror reflects on my face's way..which means I used it for put on my moisturizer cream and stuff, though I feel that left and right 'spion' mirrors is enough, still she warned me not to continue that bad habit, or she plans to ripped it off away from my dashboard, by the way, I'm on the way to campus, now :p but its red traffic lamp and got my handbrake on :p

Beside you should put moisturizer and sunblock BEFORE you out of the house. The function of those cream is to protect you from UVA and UVB. Don't you think it's a bit late to apply it when you're in outdoor area already?
