I think the moderators ought to implement a zero, 0, zorch tolerance policy with these clowns. One spam, yer out!

Me too, and it's a new experience for me, even though my comp security picks it up it's still annoying.:(
I agree with Mauricio's comments, zero tolerance!

I'm free of it so far but I agree it's not a good idea and users should kop a ban.
What is the nature of it?

No idea mate, I don't think it's a good idea to open them so they get deleted as soon as they appear...from someone called 'me' ...

Maybe a stupid question but suspiscious of assumption - I am assuming you mean your private messages inbox on the forum?

Not a stupid question at all, I assumed, perhaps wrongly it seems now, that the poster was referring to a general email account, I was...

Hi Omdafyd. Well its just that the post by M suggests to me that its a forum related issue as he mentions Moderatrors booting spammers out. Thats what led me to conclude that TopiToo / the thread, is referring to this forums private messages in box. Maybe somone can give us an answer?
I haven't gotten any spam private messages.
I am sure there is a forum mod the admins could install that would only allow people who have made at least x number of posts before they can use the PM system.
Hello
Sorry yes inbox on this forum,
I have had two so far from "CarolineNoble" asking me for advise about a wedding present and then a link to a site,
also from somebody else about some bath robe again a link to a site.
Both people as far as I can see have not posted on the forum, so I presume
they are just sending messages at random to people's inbox?
sorry just read the previous post after posting this
Yes good idea "inmedan"
I suggest that any new member must post/reply to a thread say 5 times
before they can message another member. Just an idea.

Hi TopiToo,
First, sorry not to have been able to reply any sooner. I was on my way back home from Europe.
Mauricio is right about the 0 tolerance policy. To be honest, I even have the personal feeling that our one biz ad a month rule should be restricted to business which are really contributing to this forum, and not to businesses which are loging, posting their ad, then coming back a month after to put another ad...etc.
Now, to answer your question. The best way to get rid of them is to forward wm or me the spam you have received. We will take care of the user, immediately banning him/her. In fact, I dicovered recently that they were using the PM system to spam users. They pick their "prey" then spam them. Amazingly it seems that they avoid spamming wm, paman or me. They are usually not even users, but are awaiting an email confirmation to become users. It means that they can not post, because the webmaster didn't confirmed yet their registration, but they have access to the PM system in the meantime. I believe we can set the server so that only confirmed users may use these feature.
Sorry once again for the inconvenience.
If you receive spam, please forward the PM to me immediately so i can take immediate action. I have deleted the CarolineNobile profile and banned 'her" IP. We treat these infractions aggressively .. but someone needs to report them. Needless to say, they aren't sending the PMs to the moderstors ! I just need the NIC to be able to find them!
The best way to get a response from an administrator is to private message them. Or email webmaster[at]livinginindonesiaforum.org or webmaster[at]expat.or.id

Hello atlantis
Thankyou, and the rest of the MT.

With the upgrade of the new forum software, you are also now able to report the abuser by pressing the http://livinginindonesiaforum.org/images/buttons/report.gif icon in the message.
As a rookie here, I was totally unaware of this problem. And I hate spam.
I am a member of various Forums. and I never heard of this kind of things before. Forum should be a Community first.
The only place I heard of spamming is @users.sourceforge.net
But that is expected. it is a business after all.
We were warned via monthly e-mail from Administration.
That Developers of open source software are being bombarded by spam and because our user-names are public, there is very little, that they can do to prevented.
The Expat Forum is a civilian Community and it should be free of this type of garbage.
I would put in force something like this (it is not my idea, it is from other forums) Aside of e-mail verification. You must post 3-5 posts before becoming a member. and getting more access to Forum tools. like using PM system.
If someone is fresh out of the oven, obviously he/she cannot know any friends to PM them on the the first or second day.
And if they have questions read the sticky first and then read few posts.
or get in touch with You guys. who are the skippers of this place
Thank You
