Hi
Ive been an expat in other countries and am coming to java for a week, arriving Jakarta Monday 1 June around 7pm.

I'll travel light and this forum prompted me to make an offer to bring over 10+ kg of groceries that you miss (from Australia). that is Coles or Woolies.

I don't need $ in advance but i do need you to reliably collect and pay me what it cost on the 1st. No scam .... I remember what it was like not having access to your favourite goodies!

Advice Requested: I have been invited to visit a rural area Ciasem - looks like and hour or so SEast of Jakarta. Rental cars seem way more expensive than in Bali. Any suggestions? A cheaper car rental place? I wanted to look around a bit.

Thanks indeed
Gary

Thanks for thinking of me guys. I'm still going....:)
Anyway, GaryF, I would appreciate your help in this regard. I am in Jakarta, and would like to discuss this further. No need to bore anyone with the details. I will PM you.

If you bring me an ARB rear differential locker kit for my truck, I'll drive you wherever you want within a two hour radius of Jakarta.

rental car should be 200 or 300,000 rp a day for a basic model. More for a nice 4x4.

Gary, I think you will find it is probably more than two hours by car to get where your going. I haven't been out that way for a long time, but the toll road to Cikampek will take an hour and then I figure allow another hour to get to the village. This all depends on where you are staying, if you are in North Jakarta, it will also take some time to get to the toll road. As stated by sumyunggai, a rental car with driver will cost around Rp 300,000 350,000 per day (today's exchange rate AUD38 ~ 45). That's cheaper than most car rentals in OZ, and you don't have to drive.
I don't know about your requirements for accommodation, but the range is broad, depending on your budget. I will try and help you out with this via your email.

Where exactly in West Java is Ciasem?

S 6° 18' 32'' E 107° 42' 1''

I was going to put in a map, but it was too big, so you can go there yourself

Thanks for all this advice ladies and gents

Sounds like I ‘l stay in Jakarta Monday night 1st June .. No idea where yet - there seems to ne many options!

then my friend is going to book me into Cikampek horizon hotel.

Web prices for diy car rentals from brands I know on the web were 700,000 … thus my question.

Could I trouble you for 1 or 2 names / phoen numbers?

Diff lock - well .. ok its about 15kg and I have a 23 kg limit. But its about $1200 and you have to specify the exact model.

Please contact ARB .. http://www.arb.com.au/stores/ (http://www.arb.com.au/stores/) my nearest store ( enter my post code of 4069) and work out exactly what you want. For that $ I’d prefer you to pay direct. I would give you all my details and you can google me to build up some trust

Any fishing gear/ boating? I am in that area

OK .. JalamMalam is sorted.

Does anyone want any duty free? I think I can bring in 2 bottles?

Maybe one of the Forum moderators ? for their work?

I would buy them from Sydney http://www.sydneyairportshopping.syddutyfree.com/default.aspx ( you call tell I was an expat in Dubai!)

Same deal .. just collect Monday night or early Tuesday and pay me in INR - Its a hotel near a big shopping mall PM for details

first in bessed dressed ....

Thanks. :) This is a very nice offer. However, I am in France at the moment and will be able to bring a lot of stuff from here in a bit less than a month or so, when I should be back to Indonesia. Therefore, it is better if someone else, who has not the chance to get through a duty free soon, get this offer.;)
