View Full Version : Seedlings?
Hi all, I would like to start my own herb garden and was wondering if anyone knows if you can buy seedlings in Jakarta or if you can only buy seeds. Thanks.
I've never seen herb seedlings but it is easy to buy seeds for a lot of herbs.
If you have never gardened in the tropics before, be forewarned that it is very different from growing herbs in temperate climates. Pests and diseases never die off in the cold, and as a consequence you must constantly battle viral and fungal diseases along with grasshoppers, snails, and other critters that will happily munch your prized little shoots. On the plus side, you can plant your seeds any time, and composting works like a charm.
I have had great success growing basil and catnip here, and modest success with rosemary and oregano. My recently planted dill and coriander seem to be happy, but it is really too early to say whether they are going to thrive or not.
