I strongly recommend this book : The China Study (the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted and the startling implications for diet , weight loss and long-term health) , by T. Colin Campbell and T. M. Campbell , distributed by Independent Publishers Group , www.ipgbook.com (http://www.ipgbook.com) .
Cover printed price : USD16.95
I bought it in Kuala Lumpur , MPH bookstores , for MYR61 (about USD17) .
A comment from Dean Ornish , MD , president of "Preventive Medicine Research Institute" : " ....This is one of the most important books about nutrition ever written ..."
Study jointly arranged by Cornell University , Oxford University , and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine .
This big study more or less started from the fact that rats fed with vegetable protein will not get cancer , and rats fed with animal protein may get cancer .
The study statistically confirms that a diet based more on vegetables (and less on animal protein) result in less cancers , heart diseases , diabetes ,..
But the book is not only about the statistical study . The authors comment on many other health subjects :
1. Problems we face , solutions we need
2. A house of proteins
3. Turning off cancer
4. Lessons from China
5. Broken hearts
6. Obesity
7. Diabetes
8. Common cancers : breast , prostate , large bowel
9. Autoimmune Diseases
10. Wide range effects : bone , kidney , eye and brain diseases
11. Eating right : eight principles of food and health
12. How to eat
13.Science - the dark side
14. Scientific reductionism
15. The "science" of industry
16. Government : is it for the people ?
17. Big medicine : whose health are they protecting ?
18. Repeating histories
Appendix :
A. Q&A : Protein effect in experimental rat studies
B. Experimental design of the China Study
C. The vitamin D connection
