View Full Version : Seeking Information on Nissan Cefiro's
I might be buying a Cefiro (1990) in the near future but was wondering if anyone here has had experience with them or any sort of good nugget of information about them (good or bad). One of the main reasons why we are looking at these cars is because they are cheap and fuel injected. I know they're often used as drift cars, but in our case it's mainly so my wife could get around with an automatic.
So, anyone have any experience with these cars (good or bad)?

Great cars, in their day. I had one years ago, although not in Indonesia. The basic engine is very strong, ceramic turbo should be checked. Has known issues with auto gear box. I'd be a bit wary of buying a 22 year old car of this type in Indonesia, unless you knew its history. Often repairs are done when required, but very little preventative maintenance. Still, as you say, it'd make a grand drift car!
Is this the same as the early Infinities in the US? If it is, to my recollection, the slush box is problematic (as in problem shifting at the appropriate moment, not that it'll break down) and the early V6s blows head gaskets. This applies to the initial run of the infinities, the subsequent ones (after mid-90s) are known to be generally ok.
For what it's worth, I'd have no problems buying a mid-90s Infinties of any kind (some of the V6s are bad on gas mileage though).
Disclaimer: my recollection and memory is like a bunny's tail; short and fuzzy.

Generally speaking they are a great weapon. The prime power is generated from a selection of 3 engines. An RB20, RB20T (turbo) and an RB25T (2.5 litre) Good car with great all round performance and the engines are somewhat "indestructable" which is why they use them for stock cars, speedway, racing and drift cars.
Hope this helps, regards. Mike
These cars never made it to the US. Their RB20e, rb20det, and sr20e(I think) never made it to the US market. Drifter kids (in the US) often buy front clips from Japan that have the sr20det(4cyl)and rb25det engines and on very rare occasions do you see skylines... I mean... Very rare (r32). I think you'd be more likely to spot new skylines there now, which also is rare. Nissan never brought these inline 6 motors to the US if I'm not mistaken.
Anyways.. To be honest, the car would be for my wife to drive to work from time to time and perhapse on trips to puncak, if/when we go. Automatic is a must, so im all ears for problems the trannys tend to have. My father in law keeps pushing for other cars, like a Xenia, Kia, or some other car that I dont like the idea of. It seems somewhat difficult to find cars online here vs how things are in the USA. Been trying to find a reasonable Toyota Corolla or Corona but... Usually they are sold or out of what we are looking to spend. We sold my wife's 1992 corolla for $1000 (rp11,000,000) here they sell for about $3,300 (rp30,000,000) but that's when they are usually sold before you even find the ad.
Prior to our 2005 Espass (outdated from factory), our "newest" cars were a 1999 dodge van, 1992 Nissan 240sx and that 92 corolla. Not to mention my 1986 Porsche 944 turbo, 1988 200sx, 1986 Toyota corolla (ae86), 1985 Porsche 944, 1989 Honda civic.... Not trying to brag about what I've owned, kind of is a wash when I say I own an Espass... Hahaha

It sure does help. I've grown to like these cars with their old but sort of new feel of what the interior gives. Definitely an upgrade over some previous cars I've had. Now to find one for the right price...
it might be a great car , if you can just find all the necessary replacement parts.
just got back from Atrium Senen looking for car parts.
Chatting with a shop owner there, he mentioned that Nissan is probably one of hardest brand if you are looking for parts .
I'm quite sure there must be somekind of Jakarta Nissan club in yahoogroups..you should join and ask around there.

How about a Toyota starlet? But not sure if they come with auto transmission. AT are not very popular here, especially older cars.
