Hi, I'm a new member here.

I have been reading this forum for hours :D , but I could not find the answer of my question.

My husband and I are living in The USA, and we are planning to live in Batam, Indonesia. I understand that he has to apply social budaya visa. The problem is, who should make the invitation letter since I live in America, not in Indonesia ?

Second, how many time can he renew his KITAS ? After 2 years, can he apply a KITAP ?

Thanks in advance.

The best option is a sponsor with the address in Batam because sometimes the sponsor's name is printed in the Sosial Budaya Visa and , probably , you cannot change sponsor for the extensions . If your KTP is not from Batam , you can also sponsor him putting the address of your KTP , but this way , I am not sure if you can quickly change your KTP address to Batam's address and do the extensions in Batam (better ask the immigration in Batam) .

I do have Batam's KTP :)

So, what I should do just ask one of my family members to write the invitation letter, using my name, my home address in Batam, and send it to US ?

Or I think I'd better just go to Immigration Ofice and ask about this when I visit Batam this year :D

Thanks a lot !

If you have a valid KTP, write this letter of sponsor yourself. You are the sponsor, therefore you should be signing it and writing it yourself. This is especially important if you plan to get a KITAS for him later on.
As a matter of rule if a foreigner is legally married with an indonesian spouse, he/she should be the one sponsoring him/her. Even if the spouse is living outside of Indonesia at the moment of sponsoring, as long as he/she plans to stay in Indonesia as a resident. Procedure to obtain a KTP is deadly easy and the first step would be to go to the CaPil to register and follow the procedure of "Pindah Datang antarnegara"

FTR, read the Pasal 19, UU 23/2006 which sounds like this:

Pasal 19

(1) Warga Negara Indonesia yang datang dari luar negeri wajib
melaporkan kedatangannya kepada Instansi Pelaksana paling
lambat 14 (empat belas) hari sejak tanggal kedatangan.
(2) Berdasarkan laporan sebagaimana dimaksud pada ayat (1),
Instansi Pelaksana mendaftar dan menerbitkan Surat Keterangan
Datang dari Luar Negeri sebagai dasar penerbitan KK dan KTP.

After reporting to the Capil, one should get a KTP done with the correct address so that procedure for the extension get smoother. Both procedure (Lapor datang + KTP) cost almost peanuts and are hassle free.

For you Kucingku, it is even easier, since you already have a valid KTP with an adress in the wilayah you plan to reside. Legally, you need to make a Lapor Datang only if you have ever made a Lapor Pindah ke LN.

To avoid any trouble with the immigration, one should ALWAYS try to make it simple and ALWAYS follow the legal way. If you are legally married with a WNI, then get sponsored by him/her. Don't go for any weird solutions and give bullets to any corrupted immigration officer who would like to milk you. Keep it simple.:)

In less than a week in most areas of Indonesia, sometimes even in 1 day (though it is still rare).

Thanks, Atlantis.

I think I also have to register my marriage to catatan sipil in Indonesia since I married in US.

Thanks. Have a nice day

Correct. An overseas marriage, non registered in a KBRI and/or to the Catatan Sipil in Indonesia does not allow you a status of "legally married" in Indonesia. If you plan to sponsor your husband for a residency permit, this right is precluded if your marriage is not registered. In case of a late registration you qualify for penalties/fine.:(

Have a nice day too... :)
