Hi

Has anyone ever imported a used car into Indonesia?

Good newish luxurious/sporty used cars are quite expensive in Indonesia. I just wonder is it worth bringing my own car?

Does anybody know?

It is actually against the Indonesian law to import any used car unless you are a diplomat connected with an Embassy or a recognized Aid Group..........

No wonder most cars look pretty boring and the secondhand price is very expensive. Thanks for the info.

It's just a shame, I have a 3 years old Audit TT, which is worth next to nothing, and yet will cost a fortune if I want to get the same in Indonesia.

yep, and if they let all of those 'worthless' cars into the country then all the expensive cars in Indo will drop in value....

Suppose you are right...there will be a lot of "worthless" beautiful cars rather than these huge mega big tanks

The thing that makes those big beauties so expensive is the massive govt. tax to import them in. In 2006 you could count on a car costing double here what it would cost you in the States. Now with the raise in importation taxes in 07 that has increased to about 135% and now the DPR is talking about raising it to 200%.

The Fords we have here are the Everest (my wife has one) and the Escape (I use to have one). The Everest is the same as the Explorer in the States, never heard of a Territory? But if you want to check out the Fords go to the Indonesian Ford website.
