I think some posters wouldnt notice they get no replies.

Some just go after 1 attempt... if they have no confidence.
Some plug away and modify how they come across and build up a resillience

and then some well lets just say that some feed on anything that is thrown their way... probably even silence.

I rarely post - I am shy.

Well I dont know if there are cases where someone posts on and on and got no replies at all. I know some who barely get replies and they are still around.

I have to disagree. Someone who feeds off of replies and attention wouldn't do the same from silence. One is food. The other is nothing. Worth a try to experiment. Nope, not saying.

depend on what's the thread's content about, if u post thread about sharing knowledge or " something they must know " to forumners, i don't care No reply or not, as long as they "READ". if my thread about my personal request for example... " looking for salsa teacher " like one of my thread, as long as i get enough info then i will close that thread bcos i think - that should be enough... -

I find this thread a little absurd, rather I should say that I could not understand the genesis of this thought. Since most of the people here do not know each other, definitely there is no personal reason for anybody to ignore someone's posts. The only reason could be that a person posts a totally misfit, stupid, irrelevant or absurd response or thread, but, look at the forum carefully and you will find enough people on this forum who don't spare such posts either. There will definitely be a response, even if it is to criticise the poster.

Crusader - it's a legitimate question to pose, even if there's no hidden message there - which I suspect/hope there is. And as for your contention "...there will definitely be a response.." it only takes a quick leaf back through even this channel (arguably one of the liveliest) to spot posts that drew no response.

@Kingwilly and John - OK, my perception, may be I haven't seen it happening so far and that experience leads to my perception OR may be I need to spend some more time on the forum analysing such phenomenon rather than simply enjoying the posts, posting experiences, sharing thoughts etc. :noidea:

They're not informative enough to generate curiosity. I did have the same feeling when I was the first time in the forum that I would end up getting ignored but I simply posted and posted till I now rack-up what, 1000+ posts? The problem with some of the newbies is, at least how I see it, they think as if we write thousands of posts overnight and therefore they're not eligible to jump into the threads where everybody's supposed to be treated equally regardless of the number of posts.

On the other hand, one of the mods had a pretty short (and I would say weird) introductory post and got it replied anyway, and now he ends up ruling all of us. :)

or cos 27 people all saying "Yah hello and Welcome"

sorta feels quite naff.

Pimpin
18-11-11, 11:02
Many intros say very little but, "Hi Im a new member. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and posting in the future". Other than "Welcome...." what else can you say to that? I know some posters then ask them questions but often they go unanswered. I much prefer replying to someone who not only says hello for the first time but either tells us something about themselves, asks a question, tells us something of interest or all of this. Very few and far between.

I know I've started at least two threads that got zero responses. One was "where can I rent tables and chairs"? and the other was "where can I find a banjo teacher in Jakarta"?

From the cruelly indifferent lack of response that I received, I can only conclude that forum members allow their party guests to stand around mournfully without a spot to park their derrieres (or, worse yet, forum members don't host sit-down dinner parties for dozens of people at once), and these same inconsiderate forum members do not have the decency to strum the banjo for relaxation and entertainment. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

*I remeber the first indonesian wedding ceremony which we were invited. We were looking for chairs with my husband and there was nothing! Guests just eating and eating as much as possible and they were not looking for chairs and tables at all.
*I think most of the indonesians are relaxed people.I haven't seen any angry indonesian during my stay in Jakarta.Sometimes I feel that I am watching slow motion movie when watching indonesians . I had a post about"share your favourite relaxing music here." It has no replies. The topic seemed intresting and new for me.I concluded nobody needs or thinks about relaxing music seriously!

Yes and I think they are more likely to not be involved much here for long. Numbers will say no matter how long an intro is, most will not stick around but ones with shorter intros are even less likely. If they stuck around there would be a hell of a lot more regular posters.

Also most of the posters currently who write short posts, aren't really stimulating discussion but wanting to "make friends" won't be around in another month or two. Others will replace them and the cycle continues.

i don't believe littering is part of a culture. you see litters on public transportation and not-so-nice areas all around the world. this is down to inconsiderate people who happen to exist everywhere, and not just in a certain country.

And John Madden has a difference of opinion ? I think you must read the thread, with a mention about littering and the one that you refer above, once again, what I said was something different and it meant that we should not generalise a race or a nationality becasue of a behaviour of some individuals.

The latter, but not in lecturing mode, rather in an attempt to educate about cause and effect. And always politely.

And in fact it is you who are being selective in your memory of the other thread. You suggested I was referring to a few "spoiled" individuals I believe. And please don't indulge in insults about my or KWs English language skills.

Please refrain from bringing in cross references of threads and if you have to do that, please paste a link to the thread being referred to so that nobody is mis-guided.

Also, please subtantiate your claim that I, in any way, insulted your or KW's english language skills. You refered to an old post of mine and clearly mis-interpreted the writing. In such circumstances, the obvious inference is that you are not comfortable with the language. The other inference could be that you were trying to stall me, which is a negative thought and I prevented it from entering the discussion.
