Now that Bush is almost out of office. It is time to reflect and dicuss how he ruined America. Sorry, if I didn't leave any room here for Bush supporters to comment. I suggest they start their own forum thread titled something like "Why I thought the President didn't have to be smart, just have good advisors". :D

Lets give this a round house of comments...

CNN or BBC here in Jakarta on Cable(forgot which one) are currently running a repeated show called 'Intelligence squared'
The topic of debate is 'Is Bush the worst President in the last 50 years?'
There are 4 debators...one being Carl Rove :D
The audience was invited to vote before and after the debate....not going to tell you the results in case I spoil your appetite!

The 'misunderestimated' president?

All politicians are prone to make slips of the tongue in the heat of the moment - and President George W Bush has made more than most.

As John McEnroe said at Wimbledon in 1981, "Surely, You can't be serious." And don't call me Surely! (Airplane, 1980) Perhaps you would care to list some of W's accomplishments, that balance out his colossal failures and elevate him to the "also ran" category of past US presidents.

Hello Lando...Only twice in history have we had the "father & son" become President. First time around it was John Adams the 2nd President and his son was the 6th President I believe. During this time the US was dealing with secession from Britian as well and just learning how to stand on her own two feet. The "Father" helped guide the country thru a state of emergency, this was the American Revolution Era. Later the "Son" became one became one of the largest voices in history against slavery, further, the only time in US history where Captured Africans were freed, was during his reign as a US Representative, he was their attorney (Le Amistad was the name of the slave ship, later was the topic of a full length film). Both the father and the son, did great things to help the country find its way. Had it not have been for their contribution, the US would not have existed as you know it today. These are true defining moments in history.

Lets move on the current duo of George Bush Sr. and Jr. The father was famous for his..."Read my lips...No New Taxes" line, but as it turned out, he deceived the people of the US and in fact did raise taxes. Bill Clinton later defeated him because of this. The son then succeeded Bill Clinton, since his debut, it was easily accessed that he had issues way beyond his inability to speak properly. So he cut some taxes, did a bit with the Medicare system. His wife traveled around the US pushing a program to help improve the education system. I can't say it actually did any good other than to provide a smoke screen for his many failures. Honestly, I can't think of a thing he did right.

So, I totally disagree with you...he does not deserve accolades, he was not a champion of the American People, he lost a lot of lives in Afghanistan and many more in Iraq. He continued to deceive and lie about issues...is it a wonder why probably the most popular General in the World, walked out on him. Colin Powell, clearly made the choice to abandon the Bush admins. Further, if he wanted he could have easily defeated Bush for the Presidency in the 2004. But he choose not to run as his wife assured him, he would most certainly be a victim of Assasination. He decided aganst that. I'm glad its over....

As I said, I'm not denying Bush's flaws. He wasn't a great president, I got that. But to say he's the worst President, America has ever had or to say he ruined America is stretching it a bit too far, don't you think? (Hoover is the worst, in my opinion)

Bush did some good and nobody is defending his public speaking skills but he's not that bad and I stand by it. Keep in mind, I'm not a Bush fan. I disagree with him on MANY MANY things esp. the Iraq war (Iraq war and war against terrorism are two different things)In fact, I'd see myself as a democrat. Come to think of it, it's ironic, seeing how I prefer Bush over Kerry and McCain over Obama (yeah you read it right, we can open a new thread to discuss McCain Vs Obama).

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm younger than most of you (just turned 23 here) and not American that influences me to feel this way. Maybe If I were American and older, I would feel much differently and could actually feel the damage that Bush has caused to America.

I apologize If I have offended anyone.

No offence kid...but what do you know of Bush? What do you know of his rise to power? You mentioned 3pts regarding why you feel he was a good president, at the same time you also say that its because of your youth perhaps, you may find it difficult to see things "from my POV"...

Ok..as an American, I realized in times of war, people are required to volunteer their services. I never served in the military, in fact I was staunchly opposed to the draft, as a young man, I spent a great deal of time in Mississippi on the reservation that my forefathers occupy. It was difficult to see them living in such poor conditions. Mind you, not all Indian Reservations have gaming casinos.

I was never a super patriotic individual, I found many things wrong with my country from West Coast to East Coast, for instance, even today, you could drive along I-70 and come across Ku Klux Klan members on the side of the freeway in full wardrobe at 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon, just a bit outside Missouri, near the Illinois border. Of course, a constitutional right guarantees you the freedom of speech...and in this is the ability to worship as you please...the KKK are now a church, practicing what they believe and are protected under the law. Now this is just a slap in the face...but on the other hand...you got Luis Farrakhans men standing at traffic lights pushing you to buy papers to support what cause exactly??? I don't know. But here you have the perfect example of "Polar Opposites"...

Let me assure you this isn't about race...but its about life and how human life should be valued. So I recall an interview when the reporter asked why the Bush children were so special they weren't required to enlist. At that time, I wasn't aware that the entire family was given exclusion from enlisting...So I did some research, seems that several key politicians who voted for the war, also had children who weren't going to serve either...What importance is that? I would watch his silly speeches about how he wanted to apologize to the grieving families of those children he sent to the desert, but his daughters were hanging in nightclubs passing "Fake ID's". I guess that was a real service to the country, one has a marijuana problem (I'm sorry, the only problem is when she DOESN'T have marijuana) and has been afforded special priviledges...it doesn't stop there, when you see how many people in his organization voted for this war...and to send OTHER children to fight it, while there's ran the streets being wild perhaps you would understand...to this current Presidency people are pawns. Lives are expendable. This war on Iraq...stemmed from what? People where upset about the WTC, but how many of the hijackers were Iraqi? If none, why did he immediately chose them to go to war with?

Why did he promise time and time again to bring Bin Laden to justice, but did not tell you that his father was in business with Bin Laden's father, and in fact that Bin Laden and Bush Jr, knew each other? The day after the WTC, all planes were grounded, but several members of the Bin Ladens' family where allowed to leave, yet other people for much less spent what seems like eons in Guantanimo awaiting trial, based on suspicions of being involved with terrorist activities, but the Bin Ladens have a Carte Blanche Card. (To come and go as needed)

This is a flawed system, and the head of the serpent is venomous and he is corrupt as well, how to find allegiance with something so biased. So he is no champion, his education bill is floundering, and so what he cut taxes...only to increase national spending!!! Now he leaves the office, and things are a real mess...Obama will get blamed for every little thing, but there is no clear cut way out of the madness...It doesn't stop here, the Medicare bill was atrocious and nothing more than a weak attempt to divert the attention of the US citizens from his failed policies and personal behavior (his abilility to be honest about the real state of effairs).

Rather than give me a sentence of a fact. why don;t u elaborate it to me?

I don't know what happened on the night of march 22nd 2003.

but when I said war on terrorism.. I mean his quick decision to declare war on terrorism shortly after what happened to WTC in NYC. To me, that's something.

obviously you know more bush than me. and yes, i have heard about the exclusion thingy and the fact that Bush jr and laden knew each other (my politic teacher kept talking about this all semester, ).

but I've never heard anything about Bush letting go Laden's family when NYC was attacked.

Anway I think we're just running in circle here. All I'm saying is you may feel disappointed in bush but don't forget it was America who chose Bush for the second time around. If you wanna blame someone for ruining America, blame the 51% Americans who voted for him and blame Americans who didn't register to vote. Just let him off the hook for a change.

as for KKK, racism can't and will never go away. It's everywhere. Even in Indonesia, you can see how racists some Chinese Indonesian and native Indonesians are. and we favor more to white people than black people.

I don't think Obama will do any good to America either and no, not because he's black. I just think people voted for him just for the sake of being politically correct and McCain's lack of judgment for choosing Palin.

Obama won
-McCain is wayy too old
-McCain chose Palin. I'm all for girl power but let's face it, she's an idiot.
-Obama looks more like African American than Caucasian. If he were to have more the white look (like Mariah Carey). i don't think he would have gotten this popular.

Hiya,

Sounds like Blue Dog Democrat...:):)

Blue Dogs are moderate and conservative Democrats that do not support abortion, gay marriages or gun control. There are other issues. Primarily, securing the border to stop the flow of drugs into the United States and the hemorrhage of manufacturing jobs leaving the United States for other countries.

They are much better ....:D
