Hello all, I have just renewed my membership to one of the professional societies I belong to (kind of have to, I'm on the board of one of the committees). It reminded me of one of their programs to help teachers teach math and science. Actually a good teacher/coordinator can make this program work for arts and letters too.

Anyway, they have programs from primary, elementary, middle and high school classes. They used to give away one kit per year per school (in the US), but not so anymore. Now they'll give you a 25% discount if you work with a volunteer from the society.

If you're interested, here's a list of their different curriculum:

They have things like fuel cell kits, motorized car kits, gliders, electricity/electronics, etc. It is designed that the program is project based, but the activities are divided such that in most cases you can just do one activity at a time, independent of doing the project as a whole.

Sorry if this sounds like an ad for a commercial. I'm posting this as if it's an ad so you won't see me post more unsolicited info for another month ;-)

Toodles!

Thanks for the info rabbit :thumb: How does it work? How do I work with a volunteer from the society? I'm interested in the kits. Would be useful in engaging my pupils :bounce:

The kits are nice but a bit on the pricey side. I'm not even sure they would send them to Indonesia.
Are you one of the volunteers?

Woa. I just had a look at the prices. Gotta agree with chez on this. A little on the steep side :(

Just a question, when you're looking at the price, what do you expect to receive with it?

If you're in Jakarta/Bogor, yes I can be your volunteer :-D

When the prices are checked against US prices (even for the ones who only give you the curriculum teacher book and a few odds and ends), they're on the inexpensive side.

Let me know what you expect to pay and what you expect to get. At the very least it would be good input for us.

Thanks!

Just looked up a couple of them.
The motorized car curriculum comes with 9 kits (so 9 teams can participate, 3-4 kids per team?) => $460

The electronic curriculum at all levels come with 5 kits = $320-$460

The fuel cell curriculum come with 9 kits = $560

Are the prices too much because you didn't think it would include the components for the kids to do the project with?
