Hello,
sometimes I try to wear makeup (foundation) here in Jakarta, but it just sweats off me. I would like to wear it sometimes... but now I just don't bother....it's a shame.
Has anyone got any ideas/tips about makeup and humidity???

Amazingly - since I'd probably rather stick the proverbial nine-inch needles in my eyes than wear foundation - I may have a couple of suggestions for you.

1. There is a tinted sunscreen by Avene (definitely available in Singapore, maybe here as well) that I was given as a free sample, and it actually seems like it might be pretty good stuff that works as a sunscreen, moisturizer, and foundation. It has a nice, non-greasy texture, and since it is designed for the SE Asian market, it is probably pretty good in humidity.

2. I don't know what your skin tone is and how you hope to alter it with foundation, but if you are pale and looking for a warmer tint, you could try using one of those moisturizers that gradually brings out a natural-looking tan. I know Jergens makes something like that. You would probably have to bring it from your home country, though - I doubt that s available here.

on several occasion that requires me to wear make up, I always wash my face with ice cold water before putting moisturizer and foundation and etc etc, it helps to minimize your pores and make the make up lasted

I don't wear make since last 3 years, only wear moisturiser in the morning and sun block if I need to go out in the sun.
Even for going out or party time at night, only put little eye-liner, eye shadows, eyebrow and lips gloss, maybe add some bronze/light brown blush on...and before bed time, I washed my face with facial wash with ph balance and then put night cream on..but occasionally I do wear this liquid foundation (Elizabeth Arden long wear) for special event/wedding and in door/cooler place.

Don't bother. Most men can see through the makeup. Little to no makeup is best.

I always have problems with make up
but then the only thing I do if I need to wear it is INDEED
just like the previous poster has stated....put cold water to reduce the pore size.
If you're not afraid of cold....actually just put ice cubes on your face. It works really well.

I gave up wearing it years ago. Holloween 1990 I think it was. I agree with Hombre.

Are you outdoors a lot? If you're not air-conditioned most of the time, then you can probably forget about wearing foundation. If you're mostly in air-conditioned rooms, you might like to try two-way 'cake' powders, which are basically compact powder and foundation in one. My mom uses Shiseido (they also have version with sun block). I like PAC (more affordable for me). Using a non-alcohol toner and moisturizing well with oil-free stuff before applying foundation might also help. Good luck!

I pretty much loathe make-up and my husband does too (I can't imagine we'd be together all these years if we didn't share this point of view), but I don't know about that statement, Hombre. I think a lot of men like it when women use at least some make-up. It's extremely hard for me to defend the practice since it is so alien to me, but...hmm...I guess some men and women see it a sign of femininity and taking care of yourself/having reasonable self-respect.

The best look is natural looks, but it needs make up to look natural.

For me it's a form of art only the canvas is my face.

When I took time to make up before teaching one of my friend would say it's useless because I wouldn't meet any man (most of the teacher are woman or married man). I would only meet 9-12 years old boys so why bother.... She didn't understand that I did it for myself...Don't you feel great when you look at the mirror and see pretty face starring back at you?

Hombre, I don't wear makeup specifically to attract men. It's just a good change from a bare face. Women don't just wear makeup for men you know. It's not ALL about you. Anyway what's with guys hanging round threads about makeup anyway?? Haven't you got guys got anything better to do? Bizarre.

Anyway back to topic... yes I tried the ice cold water trick....worked a treat!

if you're pretty good at applying foundation
actually that ice cube things can also be applied with foundation
but sometimes, it really needs a good hand and practice to do that
or else you will see "islands" on your face
my mum does that pretty good...not me though

hey roti bakar, I'm pretty terrible at applying makeup, but a splash of iced water beforehand I can do!

So if I do attempt to wear makeup in Indonesia. I must:

1. Apply makeup with AC on "Antarctic blast" setting
2. Run outside past the ojek boys, (damn -- can't use an ojek, makeup will sweat off. Oops, shouldn't run, makeup will sweat off)
3. Dive into a taxi ASAP (if I wait more than 5 mins outside make-up is a river of sweat)
4. Get off at destination and destination must not be outside under any circumstances.
5. Get flu/masuk angin whatever because I spend my whole life under AC, surrounded by a crowd of adoring men, looking bee-yoo-ti-ful with a face-full of immaculate makeup.
6. The End. :)

LOL. Well at least for taxis you can call them and ask to be picked up at wherever you are rather than trying to catch one outside :P

Or, you can apply make up when you already got to your destination. ;)

use mineral based make up and it wont clog your pores or fading away even if you re sweating a lot, just gently press the area where you have sweat with facial tissue but when it comes to eyeliner, you should pay attention as it will sweat off you will look like having gothic theme :D

well...that's why I give up make up here :(
Unless it's a family wedding party, then I will use make up

when I read into your order...it seems ice cubes will do better than a splash of iced water
jut put the ice cubes on your face...it gives sensational feeling...like if you're in the north pole :)

It really depends on what your skin type is. Different products work differently on different skin types (oily, dry, or combination). I personally like using Body Shop's Vitamin C moisturizer with sun block (orange tube).

Cold compress (or cukes will do) and white (or close to white) foundation under the eyes under your usual powder. :)

just put moisturizer with anti uv a and b and just lightly put the mineral based face powder to set the moisturizer and avoiding your face to be oily, and use face paper when you start to feel oily

cut a potato in half and slice it thin and put the thin slice onto the dark circle for abt 30 mins, it also helps with removing acne marks :D

Try to blot the sweat instead of wiping it off your face. Also, you should try bb creams, some brands are designed exactly for high humidity.

How long did you have to use it and see the result? The cark circle, and the acne mark?

Snowy, I always believe beside good make up, that circle could always come and prevent from within. Drink milk regularly, a glass everyday at least. That's what my mom always tell me when she sees me 'cowong'. "Drink your milk Alia, you must forget it". And yes, it works. Hope that also works for you too.

Hi kelly888,

yup, its blemish balm, just as what kingwilly said. I have not seen other bb cream brands here in Indonesia except for Maybelline's in the grocery. Skin79 Indonesia has a facebook page, but it doesn't show what stores carry them. Sorry for not being so helpful :S

What's good about bb creams is that its an all-in-one foundation, sun protection, and anti-wrinkle (but it depends on the ingredients/brand). But its coverage is only light to moderate, so you need to set it with powder for a full coverage. There's a plethora of websites reviewing bb creams :) the hype only seconds that of mineral make-up.

Can the potatoe slices eliminate the eye sacks permanently?

just put the slice on your eye bag for abt 30 mins until your skin absorb the potato's moisture and you can repeat the process daily or weekly lol

Ok girls, for you who having acne problem, allow me to recommend you this product :

Clean and Clear, active clear speed clearing gel.

Whenever you feel acne will show on your face, you know the symptom, right ? Apply this gel directly onto pimple as needed until pimple clears. Use it twice a day in addition to your 3 steps cleanse, tone and moisture regimen for skin that's clean, clear and under control.
Believe me, it works !

Ps : Its about Rp. 20.000,-
