Is life good in Semarang? Any tips would be gratefully received...I like a beer...
beer can be had. tis a small town.(which is good and bad) the best places are up in the hills just outside of town. small group of expats there. friendly mob.
even semarang is small city, so easy to find beer or others (alcohol) ...there are some places : 123 at novotel hotel, on on club at jalan rinjani, dokmai thai resto also provide it and many more.
food is so cheap and good, local or international is so easy to find, please try S2 restaurant at jalan sisingamangaraja....they has bakery, italian, japanaese and asean resto in the same area, place is very good and comfort. i know one place in bukit sari but forgot the name (.....hill...i think ) the owner is expatriate...germany i guessed and they has very good pizza and brawurst....yummi.
many expatriates living in semarang. you will find them around Ciputra hotel and citraland mall.
The best expat hang out for beer is On On Pub on a Friday night. The place in Bukit Sari is now longer owned by a German and last time I went it was not anywhere as good as before. Don't get to excited about the quality of food to be found in Semarang it is ok but not anything to write home about.

but i disagree this one, I suggest u to try Kampung laut resto, near bandara and Pantai Marina. A cozy place, worth to try. guaranteed! I live here for almost 7 years :D
